The only way I know of is to compare it to a known iron or another steel gear. The steel gears are completely smooth. The iron gears have rough cast surfaces other than the machined areas of the gear.

you will need a duraspark box, coil, and a harness from a duraspark equipped car. it is a easy hook up.

the factory gears do not interchange. this is exactly what im dealing with right now. the factory points dis in our cars has a .468 diameter shaft and ALL factory roller cam motors have a .531 diameter shaft. this is what u need http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-85833/ unless u use the 85 duraspark

ohh ok, how about a oil pan?
will my stock 75 fit on the 89 motor? or any cheap oil pans out there that will fit my car
and what type of coil do i need?
with the 85 disturb, cuz it is the right one,

the stock 75 pan will work. you will want to use the oil pick up tube, the front timing chain cover, oil dip stick, and accessorys.
for a coil you can use just about any coil out there.

you dont need those. they are for fuel injected motors anyways. you just need the msd box and coil. you may want to get a new cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires if yours are old or you dont have them.
