I sent message to Derek and Mavman with this story but figured it would make a good post.

Well got a heads up from Derek 5.0 last week about a fellows avatar. The pic was my car in its former state of light blue. After a few pm's it turns out that he is the former owner of my car and the engine builder. He sold the car to the fellow I bought it off. Spent some time on the phone with him tonight. What a great guy to talk to. What a hoot. A guy bought the car for 500 bucks in Texas and put a head gasket in it then drove it to Michigan when he got out of the Air Force. A couple of brothers bought it off him and swapped out the 6 for a 302 and his wife bracket raced the car for 2 seasons. The car then sat for a while till the guys brother decided to make a street racer/sleeper out of it. Terry bought it off him then dropped a valve in it destroying the 302. ( I think I got the story right?) Terry rebuilt a 302 ho roller for nitrous with E7 heads, port work, x303 cam, forged pistons, fly cutt, file fit rings for nos, roller rockers and all the goodies to match the cam. The trans is done with the extra clutches and the usual C4 tricks. He installed the 4:11 locker as well.
He ran the car to a best of 11.89 in the quarter on a 125 shot of nos.
ITs really good to finally know whats in the motor. He had some good street racin stories from nights in Detroit. He sold the car about 11 years ago to the guy I bought it off just over 2 years ago.
He highly suggested I put a 125 kit back on since its built for it. I may just do that in the future to give it a few good runs down the track. He said the car is a monster when the nitrous comes on through second gear. He had it set up as a sleeper for the street which is why it still had the column shift and bench seat. Hes seems happy with what I've done to the car and kept the sleeper look. He has a bunch of pics from when he had the car and was working on it that hes going to scan and email to me.
Very cool to get some solid history on my car. :bouncy:

I would have never found the builder and got all this cool history about my car if it wasnt for this forum and its members. :thumbs2: Thanks guys!! and a huge thanks to SVOPRO for spending the time on the phone with me. It was very cool.:)

That so cool to know some history about your car. All I know about mine is that it was pulled off a movie set from Toronto.

It was all because Derek noticed the avatar. Good eye. It was cool to find out the small details as well. Example. Hes the one that opened up the hood and sealed it to the breather. The rubber seal he used is a piece of an old bushwacker fender flare. The lower air breather is off a 70's Ford truck and the top is a re-pop 289 hipo chrome lid painted blue.

That's a fantastic story and great to get back round info on your mighty Maverick. The fact that your going to get some old pictures of it from it's past is really cool. This board is truly the best for this sort of thing.

Boy i would love to have old pictures of my Comet from old Mrs. White who i bought the car from but unfortunately she has passed away and the family home was sold many many years ago. Just think somewhere out there is some family photo albums buried in a closet with vintage pictures of my car. What i would give to have copies of those pictures.

Darren when you get your old pictures of your Maverick you gotta post them, very cool!!!!(y)(y)(y)

wow, how great, finding out so much of your cars history is so cool, I don't know a whole lot about mine, just the basics: bought it a year and a half ago, off a guy restoring mustangs, said he was selling it to fund an air cleaner for a cj mustang, I got all the original paper work with the car so the original owner had it untill he got it in 07, it was wrecked in the front when he got it and he fixed it and had it for a little bit and put it up for sale .... several people passed on it , mainly because of the price I think, but it was what I was looking for so I bought it.... would like to meet the original owner to find out more but have not had the chance.... glad to see you found out so much very cool.
