Hey guy. well i gus got my new 347 in the 74 2 door(my thanx to ray for hooking me up with the awsome project car. well here is the thing. when i push on the gas in drive my engine doesnt rev, like im getting no throtle. it revs in in park and thats it. i have a c6 tranny in that car right now. just rebuilt. i had to change the fly wheel to get the engin to match up. any suggestions on the cuase? thanx guys P.S. hey ray?? you still need a radio bezel??? let me know...:confused:
Wow James. That's a pretty strange problem. It doesn't stall out when you put it in gear, but it won't rev at all above an idle? Take a picture of your throttle linkage and post it would you? I do still need that bezel if you have it.
Sounds like an internal tranny problem. Was the trans new or rebuilt? What converter did you use and flexplate? Does it drop in gear but not move etc? Is the timing set correctly on the engine? Just a few ideas to look at. Strange deal anyway you cut it.
hmm well the tranny was just rebuilt and worked fine with the straight 6 and the 289 i put in it. the 289 was shot so i put that 347 in there. i did change the fly wheel that the engine came with. the car will move along at idle speed. just wont rev when i push on the gas in drive. yep its weird.the timing is set and it runs realy smooth. i DID just find a crack in the exhuast manifold today. maybe it was sucking cold air in??? im gunna order some headers soon to see how that changes things..
I might be way wrong here, but I don't think a crack in the manifold would cause that problem, ay? I'll be watching this post of puzzling evidence. :confused: Good luck.
Rick's right James. A cracked manifold won't do that. Is the car still a column shift? I wonder if dropping it down into gear is doing something to the throttle linkage. Next time I see Catie I'm going to tell her her car is a hot rod now. I saw her last week and she hates her dull no character having 1999 Escort. The says she misses her Maverick! Send me some pictures so I can give her a really hard time about it.
okey dokie well my mav is a floor shift and when i push on the gas it goes down like it should..its like i get no response when i push down. still feels like everything is ok with the pedal. well i will get the new headers either way. i will check out my throttle linkage. maybe i need to replace it since it is the one that was on the car when i put the 289 in. maybe when i put the torqe converter on i did it wrong??. i think its strange that it will still move at idle speed. it makes me think that the tranny in ok becuase it wont rev either. like maybe it is a throttle thing................. P.S. to Ray.... i will send a pic just for catie. i painted it yellow too. the interior is black now(no more lime green. added a hood scoop(again thanks to you ray). i still cant find that bezel though. i have a bezel with a radio in it though. dont know if that will work or not. i will dig that thing up tomorrow...
As long as it's the four screw unit and in good shape it's fine James. Thanks for the pic I really can't wait to see it. Wish I could come down and help you figure out what's wrong with your rig. Dumb question, but it does rev fine using the pedal when it's in park or neutral right?
yep..revs just fine in park and neutral.....and if i rev it in neutral and slam it into drive i get a nasty burnout(scared the crap out of me. didnt even have to rev it high!) well. the bezel isnt in perfect shape. could use some painting. ill take a picture of it too when i find it.

bazaar is an understatment.... yeah. i know no more neutral drops ...i had to to get it out of the middle of the street though....i would have made it back to the garage in an hour otherwise. lol.. yeah i dont know what to think about it. i mean i fairly new to the whole mechanic seen, but this makes no sence to me at all. i think i might grab the c4 out of my 4 door and see what happens?? worth a try i guess..just kinda scared of messing it up if its an engine thing
