Just started today, Hadn't changed fluid in a long time.. Tried backing into driveway and It started squirting out, had to turn around and pull in straight. It only happens as soon as you put it in reverse..I've done some research, and came up with a "cross bleed"? Which is supposedly a rare problem..Cant afford major work or new tranny right now...
    Any ideas?

    PaulS out there???

Check the bolts on the reverse band servo cover on the right side of the trans, There are 4 bolts. If not loose could be the o-ring on the cover.

Thank you for the reply, what do you mean by o ring on the cover?

There is an o-ring under the cover.Possible leak there.Never changed one so I don`t know what is involved.

This is only a transmission problem if the fluid level has been verified as correct.
There is no way that a cover leak could cause oil to spew from the vent.
Check the level with the engine idling in Park. It should be between (about 1/2 way) the ADD and FULL marks. If you are backing on a steep down-hill grade then it may be "normal" and something you have to work around. The best work-around is to do what the four wheelers do to prevent leaks on weird angles on the trail.
Remove the tail housing and vent (it pulls out). Then you tap the hole with 1/8" taper pipe thread. Put a 90 degree elbow in using some pipe dope or Loc-Tite 518 on the threads (it should be facing the front of the transmission). Use 5/16" double flare (inverted flare) fuel line (metal) and bend it so it follows the case up to the firewall. At the top of the line at the firewall cut the tube and install a fuel filter on the end (the metal in-line filter is best) and mount it to the firewall with a suitable clamp. This elevates the vent to well above the transmission and the leak is stopped.
The leak is being caused by the oil being slung into the baffle that is on the inside of the tail housing and then being forced out the vent. It doesn't happen in the forward gears because the rotation of the internal parts are slinging oil against the vent baffle and not into it.
This type of leak is not common but I can see how under some conditions it could happen. As long as there are no noises in the C4 and it runs fine then it may just be your conditions that are causing it. The extended vent is a common fix for the off-road crowd and will probably work for you as well.

Being VERY careful, make sure it is the vent leaking. The servo cover could've sprung a leak an spray the fluid up that way appearing that it's the vent.

Paul is right on with the vent routing! Or you may use a catch can but route hose same as Paul's. Great idea at the drag strip! Fluid gets hot when your going rounds, spits some tranny fluid on the strip and they shut you down!

Thanks guys, Yes that remote vent route is a good idea.. But I'd really like to know WHY this is happening, Im 99% sure its the vent, I'll have to get under there again tomorrow to check the servo bolts. Its sitting in the driveway, i check the fluid cold, Its was below add. than i checked it hot, and it was still low, probably due to all the leaking/splurging..And it STILL does it when in reverse..

Lay a white rag over tranny when it's running/leaking and that may help pin point where the leak is. Over servo and vent. Good Luck

I'VE GOT NEWS..don't know if its good or bad news..THE LEAK IS NOT COMING FROM VENT. its coming from the left side cover, The bolts are tight as can be, i checked them. But i can watch the fluid seap out.. of the top right bolt...Bad gasket/seal?
    easy fix??

There is a square o-ring (its called a lathe cut o-ring) that seals the cover. Get a new one and put a thin film of loc-tite or Permatex 518 on the o-ring and bolt it back up. You can do this with the transmission in the car as long as you can get to the bolts.
It really helps to have the cover and case clean and dry but 518 is very forgiving.

Thanks Paul, what a relief. Is this something i can pick up at the local parts store, or do i need to go to a tranny shop?

Nope, Auto zone doesn't come close. I don't think I have any extra (outside of a kit) but I would bet the local transmission houses have some.
