First off I would like to apologize if this has already been covered, but I tried searching and didn't come up with anything. This weekend while I'm home I am dedicating my time to tuning my carb so that I can get rid of the hesitation/stumble I am having under WOT (I think it is running rich). I am tring to purchase a calibration kit for my Edelbrock 1405 carb, which is the 600CFM manual choke version, but I do not know which kit to buy. There seem to be a few of them and I want to make sure I get the right one. Anybody got a part number or something that I can use to verify the kit I need? Thanks
http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/1479/10002/-1 For the 1405 carb. $55. Might try to richen up the accellerator pump to give it a stronger shot. If I remember correctly, you can move a metal arm up or down a hole to strengthen that shot up.
Thanks. That's the one I thought but I just wanted to make sure. And I have played with the accelerator pump before but the other settings just made it noticeably worse.
Then go the other way, It might be shooting too much in there when you stomp it. What is your current setup engine/head-wise?
The pump was already on the bottom or top one (I can't remember which one exactly) and I put it on the next closest one and it was much worse. When I get home tomorrow I'll chech it and verify this. The engine has the stock rotating assembly from a 1968 302, the cam is an Edelbrock Performer RPM, gasket-matched E6 heads, RPM intake, Headers, and of course the 600CFM Edelbrock carb.
i experienced a car that had a hesitation when you floored it. it turned out the idle mixture screws were to far out causing it to be to rich and only stumble when the accelorater pump squirted.
That's good to know. Adjusting those screws is on my list of things to check, along with timing and then I'll go into the rods and jets. I'm pretty sure I've got the timing right but I just want to check it to make sure. Anything else I should look at?
Those edelbrocks are pretty easy to dial in. You shouldn't have to spend more than an hour or so on it to get it where you want it. Those quick-swap metering rods are a breeze to swap out. Hopefully you can get it where you need to without having to swap jets, since they require partial tear-down of the carb to swap out.
Ok, so Friday I got to play around with the Mav for a little while, and i put the factory jets and rods back in and I also adjusted the idle screws on the front of the carb. It is running better than before, but not quite 100% yet. I didn't get around to purchasing the kit yet because I have been putting a lift kit on my truck all day and I dont' have the extra money to buy one yet since an alignment for the truck is going to be $80. Once I get back to the track and get some more money hopefully I'll get this thing dialed in. Thanks for your help guys!
