Looing at what seems to be a great shape 1972 Maverick with the 6Cyl motor and automatic transmission. The car has 62k and the owner has the original documentation, it was purchased from an estate sale when the owners passed away.

Im going to look at it, could anyone ltell me what to look for especially when I go? What questions to ask and such? I'll post some pictures below!

I agree with Justin, pour some water down the cowl vent to see if it's rusted out. But I seriously doubt it will be a problem judging by the pictures. Any garage kept, low mileage Maverick most likely won't have a rusted out cowl vent.

Post more pictures if you buy it!!

Also, any areas I should definatly consider looking at?

Here are some more pictures of the car, along with some trouble spots. Gentleman said there was some minor bubbling in the original paint.

Very nice car ... with minimal clean up under the hood and some detailing, you could show it as a survivor.

Where is the rust bubbling in those pictures? That should be cut out and replaced. If it is part of a fender or bigger panel, someone very talented could do that and blend the paint over the repair ... shop around for a great bodyman and expect to pay.

With the problems on the rear panel, those could be fixed, and you could have the entire rear panel repainted ... much easier to get a decent paint match there because of no need to blend into existing paint.

Cowl vents ... these are the slits between the windshield and the hood. This is the fresh air system for the vents/AC system. There is a tray under there for water drainage. That collects leaves, which then compost and rust out the metal ... when that happens, water leaks into the interior behind the dash. It is the Achilles Heel for our cars and early Mustangs.... a lot of work to fix it... pretty much have to blow the car apart to do it.

Pour a couple of quarts of water into each side of the vents and all the water should drain from behind the front fenders. If any leaks into the interior, there is a problem.

I would say, it's been painted, But still a nice car!
You gotta remember, cars built back then just didn't last like they do now, even if it was kept in good condition, most needed painting after 5 years. That rust is nothing major. I'd ask the guy to run the hose in the cowl, if your a serious buyer, I don't see why he'd say no.
