Was randomly searching around on Google, and came across this: http://mysite.verizon.net/vzesdp09/baltimorepolicehistorybywmhackley2/id26.html Scroll down about 3/4 of the way. An actual Maverick police car! I know there's been discussions on here about it before, but that's the only one I've seen that really was a cop car.
Very cool. I wonder if it was a real police package Maverick or just something the put decals and lights on? Wasn't the police package only available in '77?
The "Police and Taxi" packages are the same. They typically include special sway bars, small carburetor, and an interior package for comfort. Some cars add to that spring, brake, and engine improvements. Some "persuit packages" include weight (dynamic or fixed) to help balance the car better.
We had all Fairmont police cars for awhile here in the 70s. They didn't have a chance catching anything. I think they were I6 powered and all baby blue. Then they got some 318 Plymouths and I heard they were nearly as weak.
My wife's uncle was a cop, when he let his cruiser roll into the river, they gave him a Pinto....I don't know if it was a wagon or not, I've never had the nerve to ask.....
