Okie doke. I don't know what exactly the type of person I should be talking to about this, but I've been wondering if it would be feasibly possible to cut a design out of the hood, fill the design w/ something clear (Plexiglas?), and then set up lights in the engine compartment so that the design glows? The whole thing kinda occured to me while I was walking home from football practice today, and I thought that it would be a pretty cool effect if it could be pulled off. Whaddya think?

ps: The design I had in mind is in my other thread entitled "Interesting Hood Design"

Why not? Just don't cut a Grabber hood.

:D I agree. Both fortunately and unfortunately, that's what I currently have. So I'd have to buy another hood to do it with. The biggest drawback I was thinking was that you'd probably want to do something to the underside of the hood, too, so that you don't just have plates of "X" material (once again, Plexiglas?) on the hood. I don't know what exactly you could do for that...

Thanks for the offer, but I DON'T THINK SO. That kind of body work would probably cost a LOT of $$, which is something I'm short of right now. And probably will be for a long time. So for now, you go ahead and keep ur hood. (I might buy it off of you if you're interested, tho?)

lol....There's a body shop down the street from my house, and I think I'm gonna head down there sometime today and chat with them about it. Get some ideas of the real practicality of the issue, ya know?

Here's an idea. Rather than cutting a hood all up, why not open up the scoops on your grabber hood and put some glowing lights in there. That might look pretty cool. Especially if you coordinate with an underbody kit and accent behind the grill and other choice places. It would be easier to do and probably look better. Its also reversable later on when you decide you dont like it anymore.

Ya know, that's a really good idea. I wonder why I didn't think of it.....:slap: . I still like the idea of the whole cut-out design, and like I said, I wouldn't cut up my Grabber hood. So I could still buy another hood to cut up, and keep my grabber hood. That way I could just put the grabber hood back on if I got tired of the chopped one. I get the feeling that lighting up my grabber hood, etc... would be a lot cheaper than the chop-job, so for a while, I'll probably just go for that. Thanks 4 the idear...

I was going to suggest what Xrs said but he beat me to it! ;) When I bought the Grabber hood for my car, a previous owner had indeed cut out the honeycomb part of the scoop inserts. I toyed with the idea of putting stobe lights in there with an alternating flasher but decided against it because it didn't really fit with the overall look I was going for. Instead I got hold of the plastic honeycomb from the grille of a Dodge (gasp!) truck and made new inserts. If I had a carburetor on this car instead of EFI, I'd have made up some sort of ram-air setup. I still like the idea of putting lights in there though. If it wasn't for the fact that I'd have to re-paint, I'd offer to swap inserts with you...

The light idea sounds cool, but wouldn't it be illegal?

Just had another thought.... I'm trying to figure out ways where you won't have to do much, if any, cutting on that grabber hood. These days you can buy those small LED lights in various shapes and colors that stick on, so you wouldn't even have to cut out the honeycomb part. It might require drilling a small hole to run a wire, but that's a lot better than removing the whole thing. The key would be to find a light that looks good inside the enclosure and doesn't look tacked on.

In regards to the lights in the inserts, I was actually thinking that maybe I could cut out the honeycomb setup so that there would be actual holes, and not just a piece of plastic. Then I could set the light behind it, where you couldn't really see it, but the light would still (theoretically) go through the honeycomb to give a cool effect.
And in regards to your post, Corbin, what part of the light setup do you think might be illegal? I mean, that type of stuff is done with imports all the time.
