i just acquired this 1978 mercury marquis as a trade for my VW karmann ghia. this car has 81,000 documented miles and looks like it was stored in a garage for most of its life. the paint, interior, and engine are all original and untouched.it still has the inspection stamps for the paint in the trunk lid. the am/fm radio even works. this car floats like a couch going down the road. it has the 351/400 cu in engine with a c-6 and a factory installed towing package. the owner just never put the hitch on. still has the trailer brake switch inside. so far i've just had to fix the a/c switch and it will need a recharge. I had to put in a new alternator and voltage regulator today. the pans look spotless. the previous owner got it from a 93 year old woman who finally got to old to drive it. he took it home and his wife hated it so i happened to see it at a show and we worked out a trade.:bananamani needed a back seat for my daughter and he wanted a small car. it all works out nice. this will be my tow car for my next mav project.
My Dad had the colony squire wagon, same color. Real nice ride! My sister and her girlfriends called it "The Love Boat"! That's in great shape and Looking Good!
well everyone knows i'm a sucker for a nice 4 door. it isn't to everyone's taste but it is VERY clean and will suit what i need it for nicely. besides, my daughter can now carry about 15 friends along with her in that enormous back seat. haha i'm averaging 12.8mpg with this boat. not bad considering alot of new trucks barely get that.
Nice car. Not particularly valuable or exciting, but Id still drive it. Setting the timing and advance curve, degreeing the cam, and setting the carb the right way should make a WORLD of difference in both performance and gas mileage without spending hardly any money. Dual exhaust if it doesnt already have it will help performance and help it get rid of heat when towing.
thanks for the suggestions. like you said, it isn't a car most get excited about but for what i need it's perfect and i didn't have to spend any money from my car budget to get it.
