i've added a few ins, where the headers need to go but am i going to need block hugging headers to clear it , i'm putting a 351 in my 76 maverick, i have some 302 headers but i'm not sore it they will work just yet, just wanted to know if i need to get the headers then see how much room i need or see if i can be cheap and use the 302's i got lol, thanks

302 headers are too short for the 351 (taller deck) Your going to have to buy crites or doug thorley headers for the 351 in the Mav...Or fab your own. Tower shave is a good way to go as well but, you can get by with out...These are summit headers(so I'm told) thet were beaten into submission by the gorilla who put the engine in this poor car before I got it. I would recommend the tower shave...:yup:

do those headers hit the towers when to "get on it"? if so....hows the vibration...like, is it really noticable inside the car?

Here is a picture of how much the towers have been shaved. The headers on my 351 (now 408ci) Maverick are 1.75" diameter and getting the plugs out of the TFTW heads is no picnic, especially on the drivers side by the steering...................

so far i have about 23 to 24.5in from one side to the other where the headers will be, so if i get custom headers it should work, with some playing around?

A friend put a Windsor in a 72 Comet using Summit 302 headers. Although he used homemade engine mounts he still had to bang on the tubes and grind the corner on the steering box. I know its not the best in the world, but its better than stock manifolds.

Here is almost the same picture of mine 351w installation with 1.75" headers. My TFTW heads have the exhaust ports a little higher than stock
but it looks like rthomas771's friend has the motor sitting lower in the chassis than mine.......................pictures can be decieving.

im having the problem of the header hitting the frame rails...i put a M2 kit in and have plenty of room as far as shock towers are concerned...but now my problem is like 1 tube on each side....they're very close to hitting the rails ( the gap is like 1/8th inch) ...now im planning on notching the rails in those spots....either that, or start buying sets of headers and doing trial and error.....id rather not spend any more $$ tho...
