    Hey Everyone,

So to address my Red 73 Comet with the blue interior, I ordered the Marti Report. It came today. So like a kid on Christmas morning, I opened it with great anticipation for the bounty that would be inside! Proof, vindication, that my car is in fact correct, although still ugly. Proof that some self medicated salesman checked the wrong box and ordered a completely unsalable car.

Not to be. The report stated that is should have been built with a black interior. Code (BA) - Black Cloth/Vinyl Bench Seat.

The report also comes with a copy of the door tag which also states black interior by the code. So why the Blue interior? My guess is that it is a mis-build. I say this because there is no evidence of it ever being black. The dash and the doors have the factory paint, everything is correct for a factory blue interior. Plus why would anybody go to the expense and trouble to change it?

The report also said that there was a credit for bumper gaurd delete. It had bumper guards at one point, I have them.

The car is in storage right now but when I get it home I will get the build sheet. I'm sure it's under the carpet as I checked the rear seats.

So I stand corrected, for now! :16suspect

Check and see what the trim code is on the data sticker stuck to the car.

I will as soon as I get to see the car. Probably this weekend. What I really want to see is the build sheet. Another funny thing is the car was ordered om 2/01/73 and not built until 5/24/73. Almost 4 months difference.

Pull one of the rear plastic arm rests/interior panels out and look at the inside of the B pillar. There is almost always overspray from where they painted the inside of the pillar to match the interior color at the factory. Also look under the door panels (be careful with the panel).

A good (if slightly over exaggerated on this particular car) example of this, is this pic of a '76 body shell I have sitting around. As you can see, this car was brown originally with tan interior. Look for signs of black over spray on your car.

I'll do that. That won't be until I get it home for the summer in abot a month or so. I am really baffled about this. I just think it's an oversight or someone changed the order on an existing order. Who knows?????

I had a Firebird that was blue with red interior. It was just a V6 car...1979....and everybody told me wasn't original but I think it was.

I can't wait to do some more investigation now that I know something is goofy about it.

You are not alone. There is a '76 Comet two door next door to me that is red with blue interior. As far as we can tell it was built that way. It is a 250 automatic with air, p/s, p/db and has the radio deleet option. Its really hard to tell why this color combo was used. Sometimes at the end of a production model year they use up what ever stock is left. Sometimes during a pre-production the use what ever they have just to build a car for prove-out. But this doesen't seem the case here. Mabe it was a rare combo color not seen often. My friend Jeff had a new '76 Econoline 150 van with a red/white outside and a blue inside, 460 4V to that was ordered that way.

I'm really interesting in seeing what you find under the panels, like Jamie suggested.

I think the weirdest color combo I've seen was in a Mustang Monthly years ago....it was a big convertible Mustang (73 I think) that was dk blue with orange interior. What made it more odd was that it was a 6 cylinder stick shift. They claimed it was the real deal but I've never heard of orange interior in a Mustang before but I have seen it in a Maverick.

My maverick has orange interior, and through internet search I have seen a couple others but I've never seen a mustang with orange interior.
Do you happen to have a link?

No it was in an old magazine. Maybe it was orange with blue int?? I did a search on the internet and found a blue 60s Mustang with red interior that was built for export though.
