I swapped over my manual steering to a power setup way back when i was 16 and didn't know what i was doing  (wish i would have kept it manual now)

But i kept the manual gear box...has anyone ever done this before?

    How did it drive/steer?

    Thanks:Handshake

I wouldn't ... the manual box is a couple extra spins lock-to-lock. The PS system already feels over-boosted IMO ... the extra leverage from the manual box is just going to make that worse.

I did the same thing many years ago. It drove just fine. Only problem after you turn a corner and let go of the wheel it wouldn't always want to return to center on it's own. Sometimes you had to give it a shove to center. Maybe a little extra caster would have taken care of that but didn't know that then.

Returning to center may be an alignment issue as you stated NOT the steering box. Not enough caster will cause that.

There is a kit to eliminate the power ram and turn power steering into non-power in short order. Check with a Mustang parts supplier. I think the power steering box is 16.1 ratio and non-power is 21.1 ratio.

Yes I'm sure adding some more caster would have solved that problem. Was too young at the time to know that.

CJ Pony sells an adapter that can be added to an existing PS control valve without removing anything other than the control valve it self and the pump and hoses. Part #MSA1:burnout:

    Rs

Kit of parts. Parts installed in place of control valve.
