Uhhh...where does the oil dipstick go when I add serpentine setup?

Do I need to move it to another part of the engine?

It is RIGHT where the 3 bolts on the bracket go to mount the alternator and tensioner.

I know stock 5.0 had rear dipsticks, but they also had rear-sump pans. So what's up?

this is a problem that ive never encounterd because i have not done that conversion. im kinda suprised that i havent. well it looks like you get to be creative. you might be able to bend the dipstick tube and grind a chanal in the bracket for it. if you bend the tube, make sure the bends are in the same plane or the dipstick wont go through it.

I always have too many projects half finished.

I am looking around on other forums and apparently, putting a serpentine belt on with a 3G has a lot of little sub-projects involved. I apparently have to do some cutting and grinding on the bracket to clear a protrusion on the alternator, then I need to re-clock the alternator to get the hot wire down at the bottom, and no telling WHAT else will pop up. Oh yeah, and the dipstick...

Has anyone logged a tech article of putting a 3G on a serpentine system, and putting a serpentine system on a maverick, or both?

If not, I will write one up myself.

I just moved mine off to the side for now I will probably drill and tap a hole in the bracket to mount it too.

You could just put a sight gauge on your oil pan, then you could even see when its getting dirty :bs:

You know, A sight gauge was an idea, since my dad's motorcycle uses one, but I have no idea where to do it, and if I did, the pan wouldn't be an appropriate place, so I 2nd your :bs:

BUT I talked to fan2488 who has done the serpentine swap, and he said he was able to get it to work by massaging his dipstick (keep it clean here:rolleyes: ) out of the way and grinding a groove in his bracket so the dipstick would slide into it, then drill and tap a hole for his dipstick to mount to.

Then on another forum, some mustang one, they show that you have to cut away a chunk of the alt/tensioner bracket to clear the protrusion on the 3G, and everything should go together.

Everyone running a serp system says it will be worth the work.

And everyone running a 3G says it will be worth the work. So I am into it 100%.

I've got a set of little used March pulleys I'll let you have cheap. I was going to put em on the 331, but decided to leave my custom home built setup stand.

Thanks, but I already have all the pulleys. My dampner spacer came in last night, and I should have this whole kit and kaboodle put together this afternoon.

The dipstick just needed to be bent a little to clear the pulley. Luckily, bent WITH the flat, not against it.
