    Has anyone ever run one and/or know their benefit?

    Im debating on whether or not to run a 393 stroker, or a long rod 351w. Ive read alot of different reviews on the web but was wanting the opinion of the fellow board members :)

    any input is appreciated

    From what i hear there arent any problems but not alot of benefit.

    I guess I'll just jump in here, you didn't mention which block you will be using and what head you will use on your stroker. I think this is more important than talking about a 6.20 long rod. The 74 and earlier 351w block actually weighs 10lbs more than an 75 and up block............the 74 and earlier certainly has more meat on the mains when you convert to 4 bolt mains, something that really should be done on a stroker.

    It just depends on what you are going to do with the motor, how much money you want to invest, and how much HP do you want to make.
    Personally, for a street motor I don't think it really makes much difference. For a race motor I think I would go with a 408, 414, 427, and it would be interesting to try a 454. So with that said, why not use the 351 crank, offset grind it, use the 6.2 long rods and come out with 383/393ci. And if you aren't trying to make 600/700hp and will not be spinning the motor over 7000rpm stick with some less expensive cast heads unless you have already zero'd in on some aluminum ones.

    IMHO

    The stroker, with the same mods as the long rod engne, will produce a lot more power. The long rod 351W is a good engine and will make a lot of power and torque but you just can't beat cubic inches for making power and torque!

    Personally I am not sure you can tell the difference between the two motors if they were built somewhat similar.
    I would certainly build a motor differently for a "long rod" vs a stroker. You would use a different cam, compression, timing...............etc. (if you were building a race motor) and for the street I'm not sure you could feel the difference "in the seat of your pants". IMHO

    Here is an article that is interesting reading;

    I used to have a circle track car and I have built a 408, 416 and a long rod 351 using the ford 400 rod 6.58 length. The long rod out performed the 434 chevy,s week after week. It also didnt use as much fuel as the big cubes. The only maker for pistons as far as i know is keith black part # kb333
