Here is a article for installing a tilt steering column from a '86 Ford Taurus, http://www.fordmaverick.com/mechanical/taurussteering.html
I believe tilt columns were offered in the 1975-1980 version of the Granada/Monarch and they would be a bolt in swap, although I've never seen one. I borrowed an idea from another member on this forum (THACK) and combined the top part of a 1977 Thunderbird with the lower part of my Maverick's original column to get tilt. I had both columns out and laid them side by side and figured out where to cut them so the overall length would be the same and welded the T-bird piece to the Maverick piece. I can't remember, but there might have been some cutting and splicing of the turn signal switch connector or at least moving around of the pins, but nothing too hard. I think I also had to shorten the rod that goes from the ignition cylinder to the switch on the column. Just throwing out another idea for a way to get a tilt column in a Maverick.
They all do eventually. I'm not sure about Fords but you could tighten the GM's up relatively easily.
Thanks for the ideas. I guess I'll be hitting the junk yards soon considering the aftermarket columns are $450 and up.
