You can use this to figure out MPH vs RPM: http://home.netcom.com/~sgalaba/mph.htm

Im not sure the exact ratios of a C4, but I'm sure PaulS or the internet can answer that one. Assuming you have a factory 8" rearend, the available aftermarket rear end ratios for an 8" Ford are 3.00, 3.25, 3.55, 3.80, 4.11 and 4.62. There might be some "special" ratios out there, but these are the ones that are readily available.

If you want a drop in tracloc unit (posi) with gears, Bryant on this forum sells/builds those. Or you can look on eBay.

If you want a highway driver with your C4, I would go 3.55 since you do not have overdrive. If aren't planning on doing much on the highway, or are planning on drag racing, you might want 3.80s, or even as low as 4.11s if you are running slicks. Have fun! (y)

    C4 3rd gear...1:1

    ...Height of tire
    ...RPM range of cam
    ...TQ stall
    ...rear gear ratio

all of these should match...so you need to make a call on what you want to do with the car...Street...Strip or Street/Strip...

Bryant on this board is pretty good with that stuff. Send him a message or maybe he'll add his input. I was cruising on the freeway close to 3,000rpm with just 3.25 gears. So is this going to be a daily driver or a racer?

the info offered so far has been good.
you will need to know your tire hight to figure out the relationship between speed and rpm in your car heres a few links to sights that can help you out.

Former 916er (El Dorado Hills), current 559er (Hanford) here. My plan, once I rebuild my cash stores, is to head back down to San Diego and visit Bryants shop as I've heard nothing but good things about his work. Hey Bryant, how much for the posi 3.55 rear end on a 73 Maverick? would you recommend overhauling the tranny too?
