Drove the Maverick this morning, had a long straightaway, decided to open it up. I've ran it up to 80-85 mph before and let out. This time I held on to around 110 mph before I let off. Was still picking up speed! At around 90-95 mph, it stated getting a little twitchy, kinda floating like, hard to describe. Last car I had that fast was a 92 T Bird, and it seemed like the faster it went, the better it held the road. The Maverick was a little bit scary at that speed. Don't know if I need to rebuild the front end [has new upper ball joints already, no slack in the manual steering] or if it's just the aerodynamics of these cars. I wanted to take it to the 1/8 mile track this summer, but if it's that unstable at high speeds, I don't think I want to now. And then again, it might have just been me. It's been a long time since I've experienced that high a speed!:D

Mine isnt bad at 150mph. Seriously, its not but that doesnt mean yours couldnt have a problem. Im sure some cars are better than others but mine feels ok. Mine does have some extra caster in it thou.

at the 1/8 I doubt you will get past 75mph. I never got mine past 90mph with the 6 cllinder and I thought I was gonna die when I went to stop because the passenger front drum was way out of round and it shook hard when stopping

Like others have said ... 1/8 mile you shouldn't be much over 80.

Sounds to me like air is piling up under the car at speed ... Suggestions to fix it ... front spoiler, slight nose-down attitude (cut the front springs a bit), and a tweak on the caster in the alignment.

Could be air pileing up. Front is lowered about 1 coil.

Mine feels pretty much the same from 75 up until about 100. It gets a little light feeling in the front end from there on. Tops out at about 116 with it on the floor down hill, every time you hit a dip in the road going that fast, it feels like the air is trying to pick the front of the car up.

Once i got into a top end pull with one of my crew, He was in a Supercharged Mustang. We both let off at about 150, I rebuilt the front end shortly thereafter. The car never experienced any problems but i could tell that it was loose. I totally rebuilt the front suspension with today's specs for radial tires. I also put on a new control valve as well as a new slave cylinder. I haven't been 150 since i did the rebuild, But i did go 132 in the 1/4 mile several times. Now the car is as tight as any new car i have driven.

some stiffer shocks and a biger sway bar will give a more solid feeling. a front spoiler should help alot also.

Aerodynamics. Get a front spoiler and lower the front end a little. Tires will help as well. Look at the front valence. It looks like the hull of a boat. Thats going to give the front end lift. Now if you also have a rear spoiler, you are creating down-force on the rear and is going to make the front-end-lift even more noticeable.
