You should make all timeing/carb adjustments with engine at operating temp (except the choke) Set the choke with the engine cold.
Speaking of the damn choke, hwo do I adjust that? I see you can loosen 3 screws and move it clock or counter clock and a screw? How do I tune it? It runs great wamed up but when its cold I can keep it running? Any thoughts
cant remember but i think there is a black circle piece on the side where you connect the choke, you loosen the 3 screws and turn (not sure which way)
The choke housing (black round thing) should have: R llllll L stamped on the top facing edge and a corresponding hash mark on the metal housing or it will say "Rich lllll Lean" on it. Turn it to the rich side one more hash mark than where it is now(after loosening the 3 set screws)Tighten set screws after making adjustment, and see if it functions well. The Bi-metallic spring in em wears out(looses it tension) with age/heat, and may need to be replaced if you cant get an adjustment that workes well. Set it cold (you may need to turn the fast idle up or down as well)...let the car run and warm up. Watch to see that the choke opens up as the car warms up.Once choke is opened, blip the throttle and make certain the fast idle pulls off and the low idle is as desired. Generally the choke is set 2 hash marks to the rich side from center on a new properly functioning set up. Good luck!!!
And after setting the timing, you'll need to go back and tune the carb again. Always set the timing first, then tune the carb. Timing, then idle speed, then mixture, then idle speed again, if the mixture raises it to much. The stumble may(probly will) go away after advancing the timing. If it doesn't, take a look at the accellerator pump linakge and take out nearly all the slack. If all that doesn't work, you may need to add more pump volume or look at bigger squirters.
