can any one help me find the right offset for my 1972 comet? I just got back from discount tire and and I am left with more questions than answers. I want to run as wide a tire and rim as I can, with out tubbing or cutting the fender well out. I also want to stick with cragar ss rims, 15". The guys at discount said that 8" tire is as wide as I can go. I want to fill out the wheel well and bring the tire as close to the outside of the car as possible with out cutting up the car. I like to see my tires look like alot like what I see you guys doing. the guys at dicount would have me PAY 1500 bucks for stuff that doesnt fit the way I want it to with a NO RETURN POLICY. My wish is to run 10" wide onthe back and 7" on the front. Does any one have the magic #'s and off sets to make this possible. or know of a place that can size my ride with the the LOOK I am looking for.:hmmm:

You will have problems with 10" wide tires on the rear. I did that back in the 70's, but those were the days we jacked them up pretty high. 4" backspacing is standard. I dont see any problems with what you are doing up on the front end. I do know that not all of these cars are cookie cutter and some people may chime in that 10" wide rear tires fit.

Sorta in agreement with Maverickman, I used Cragar 15X8 with 4.25 backspacing. Got 245/60s on there just fine.

Running 255 now, but they hit the fender on hard launches.

Also running 215/60 up front on 15X7 Cragars, with 4" BS. There is a little room for more width up front, maybe 235, MAYBE. But I haven't tried it.

I have four 15X7 wheels and want the option to lower the car an inch or two. Plan to buy two 235X60X15s and try them on the front. If they fit with no problems, I'll buy two more for the back. If they're too wide, I'll use them on the back and get 215X60X15s for the front. Might could use wider on the back but not with 7" wheels.

Depending on your backspacing, 235 should be easily attained on the back.

Might be tight up front. So buy two, try them up front, and if they don't work slap them on the back.

I have 15x10 with a 3 1/2" back spacing and 245/60/15 no rubbing or special suspension mods. great fit in my book. On the front and 15x5 on the front.

I had 15X10's on back with 275/60R15's and had some rubbing issues. I changed to 15X8 wheels, 4.5 b/s and kept the same size tires...works perfect for my car. My rear is 1" wider than stock so a 4.0 b/s may work better with a stock rear end. The 275 tires will fill up the rear very well.

Great looking cars guys. Ray I really like the way your car sits. It is the look I'm going for. I have along way to go and right now my mouth taste like filler and primer. I'd like to hear some more on what engine mods have been made on your cars. Mine for now has a 280 cam and hydrolic lifters, a holley 600 and single exhuast. I have headers in my garage for it now and I am buying parts here and there as I go. (to bad I,m not rich) but I am patient. I have no idea what kind of horse power its putting out. I am on a budget and any advise is welcome. and again, GREAT LOOKING CARS GUYS. thanks for the advise on the rims and tires.
