Besides the grabber option, which do you think would have made it to a Maverick?
Let's say for all purposes here that the mustang was floundering and the Maverick was coming into it's own as the youthful replacement to the stang. Which badge would have come into the mix, and what could've been the options for the time frame/era? By this time shelby's involvement at Ford was pretty much gone so no shelby catagory.
Wadda ya say fellas? A beefier Maverick ala the 69-70 mach/boss/cobras era, or a car of "sporty refinement"..- the mustang II route?
I can only imagine a Mach 1 Maverick or Cobra style trim and power level, honestly though I think that the downturn in performance due to rising insurance and the government regulations most likley would've resulted in a stripe only pkg that was becoming the norm in the crunch of the 70's...but my god, could you imagine a real "car guys" Maverick with the hi-po stuff and trim levels they were doing with the stang at this time? Sure, I know this car was pioneered as the econo/basic bare bones car to meet the price of the competitors offerings, but again, lets say that the mustang was almost dead.

    Mach 1 or Cobra?

I think if that were the case, the Grabber still would have been the name of choice for the more upscale models, and I think a Boss 302 Maverick would have been a very strong possibility as well. Maverick Mach 1 just dosen't sound right.

I agree they most likely would have gone for a Boss 302 Maverick but I personally don't have a problem with the Maverick Mach 1 type. In fact this is the direction I'm heading with my build. I would like to keep it somewhat true to form ford-wise without making a McMustang...

I'll tell ya though The Boss Maverick would have a hit no doubt.

we always wonder what could have been huh? cool topic !

Yea...I was leaning more tward Boss too but I thought since there was hype already about a so-called Boss Grabber that I wondered what other direction it could've gone..

just think if Shinoda had a big hand in this.....WOW! And I know I said no shelby involvement, but wow..can you imagine KR Maverick convertible!:mg:

Maybe chin spoiler, rear wing spoiler, shaker hood, big block option, reinforced shock towers, Toploader, Tracion-Loc and reflective side stripe.

I'd say Boss. Remember the "Grabber package" Mustangs...also heard them called "Showroom Bosses"...not sure the correct term but they were really just V8 Mustangs that had a 69 Boss style side stripe minus the Boss 302 logo. The ones I've seen in person were 70 models but I've always thought that stripe would look pretty cool on a Maverick. A few items blacked out and such....could have been factory if the Mustangs dudes hadn't felt threatened by the Mavericks.

Maverick was the budget/economy car that replaced the Falcon. The Mercury Comet replaced,..........the Comet:hmmm:

On those car lines they had Sprint and Futura. Sprint got recycled:bananaman
The Futura name found it's way onto the Fairmont.

Interesting trivia about the Comet name.
Ford had purchased the name "Comet" from Comet Coach Company, a professional car manufacture in which the term belonged to a line of funeral coaches, mainly Oldsmobiles. The coach company then was renamed Cotner-Bevington.
In Canada, for the 1960 model year, Mercury-Meteor dealers sold a compact car called the "Frontenac." The Frontenac was considered a model in its own right and was badge-engineered version of the Ford Falcon with only minor trim differences to distinguish it from the Falcon. The Frontenac was produced for only one year. The Comet was introduced to the Canadian market for the 1961 model year and replaced the Frontenac as the compact offering by Mercury-Meteor dealers.

The Mercury Comet had models called Caliente, Cyclone, 404, 202, Capri, and earlier was a S-22.

I like a lot of the names listed above. Don't really care for Ghia, Capri, King Cobra, or Caliente.

Frontenac, is that French or something?

There were Big block Mustangs after 70.....and Boss 351's too.

I'd like to imagine Ford would have opened up/redesigned the engine comaprtment/front chassis, to accomodate.

    A 429 CJ/SCJ Grabber sounds awesome, as does a Boss 351 model
