Ahhhh the 70's...Before he was the Bandit, Burt was in a 4 door Galaxie. That thing was bad ass for shine running, remember the barge-jump scene? There is something kinda cool about a bench seat and the whole "sleeper" look. Rumour has it that there were three cars used for the film and one car was 429 police pkg special. ...and lo and behold, look whats in the background to the right.
I believe the movie was "White Lightning". That is cool that the Mav is in the picture. When the car was taking off burning rubber & shifting gears it was a 4 speed car. When he pulls up in the front yard of the house he throws it in park. I guess it was hard for them to find that many 4 speed Galaxies. Very cool old movie.
My grandparents had 72 LTD 4 door ... Harvest Gold, brown vinyl top, plush interior, 351C 2bbl. About the same time, my folks had a 70 Galaxie 2 door ... triple medium green also with a 351C. I really liked that car as a kid ... probably lead me to get a 71 Torino as my second car. Related to Burt Reynolds ... In the mid '90s, he shot a family-oriented movie called "Cop and a Half" in Tampa, FL. The car my grandparents purchased new after that 72 was another LTD, a 1976, also Harvest Gold. I was assisting coordinating the background vehicles for the movie and drove that car in a few scenes for the film. Thanks to my grandmother, it had a "Born to Shop" license plate on the front. That car was 20 years old at the time and only had about 60K miles on it.
I took drivers ed in one just like that, my dad had a 61 ford i was learning to drive in and I remember how smooth the LTD was, that and how little the steering wheel was with power steering, lol
I can remember riding on my Grandfather's lap as a little kid steering the car as we went down the road. His was just like the one in the picture. It was Brown on Brown and had a 429 in it. That car was nice to ride in. Thanks for bringing back some good old memories. - Matt
your right Mike..the movie is white lightning. The reason why I posted this cause I dug up an old pic of my Mom and Dad brining me home from the hospital in a 4 door white LTD. I googeled some images, came across this brought back some memories like MVW said, and just had to post...it was a cool movie.
I hadn't seen this movie in years. Cooincidently I watched it on Hulu a month or two ago. Defintely a different time...a simpler time uncluttered with todays fast paced technology...
My grandpa has a '71 LTD 4 door just like that sitting out in his field, except it's dark green with dark green interior. Still has the original 429 4V/C6 in it with 76k original miles. Car is rough though, hasn't been on the road since '91.
