swap the names around, A Mach-1 Maverick sounds better.

Don't know why, but back when I had my 70, almost everyone called it a Mach-1 Mustang instead of a Mustang Mach-1

Hmm, Wonder how a 70's blacked-out honeycomb taillight panel would look on a Mav?

I like the sound of a Boss 302 Maverick. I thought I read some where there was a prototype but never was put into production. Mabe it was a dream. I'd bet they didn't have enough engines to supply the Mustang and the Maverick Boss cars. They could have easily made a Maverick GT. They were made in Brazil. They were a lot like a Mustang. Mustang sales in Brazil were low and still are. They are very expansive. A Comet Eliminator would have been nice to. I guess Maverick/Comet sales were high so they didn't need to invest a lot of money to sell the car. Ford had a hit!!

    A Maverick Grabber R....like the GT-350 R Shelbys.

    Or borrow from the competition.....

Instead of R/T, a Maverick GRT (Grabber Road and Track)

or, some of Ford's other "editions"....like "GTA".....except instead of meaning Grand Touring Automatic it would signify a Maverick Grabber Trans-Am

A Comet "Eliminatior" edition would have been sweet

Hell, with all the repo muscle car emblems and stickers available, and a little imagination, we could create all sorts of "Shelby Maverick" type rumors and legends with our cars! LOL

Frankly, I've always liked the idea of creating cars the big three "should have" made......like I always thought what if the gas crunches of the 70's hadn't killed off muscle cars and Chevy had kept making big block SS's .....so I built a 79 Malibu SS 454, complete with a cowl hood, rear spoiler, Muncie 4-speed, 12-bolt posi rear, buckets, console and a gauge package, even era correct "SS" wheels, in this case, the 78-83 Corvette aluminum slots.

We should have some fun and make some "factory" performance editions Ford should have made with the Maverick/Comet.

Could start a new automtive trend...., Pro-Street, Pro Touring, Resto-Mod, and now,....

    "Faux Factory" LOL

My friend who was at Ford in the old days said they had a BOSS 302 in a Maverick as a test mule and it was faster than the big block Mustang soooo out went the BOSS Mav idea. He's a little crazy though, but man can he port a cylinder head :)

Well, since I'm a Comet guy at heart. I'm going to say that Ford/Mercury could have went all the way and continued the Cyclone line on the Comet. I'm going to build my version of a Cyclone Spoiler out of my other 71 for my son. Don't know if I'll go the full route with the 429 but maybe a nicely modified 351 Cobra Jet. - Matt

My Dad had a 70 Cyclone Spoiler back when I was getting ready to turn 16. We were going to fix it and it was going to be my car. But, my mom was on him about cash and a kid stopped by and asked what he wanted for it. He told him $1000 and thought that would send him away. He pulled out a handfull of $100's and that was it. It sold on ebay again a few years ago and in not much different condition than what it left our house for $4500.00. It had a 429 SCJ, ram air, and 4spd with 3:91 traction lock rear. It went down to the Houston, TX area. Wish I had that one. - Matt

Wonder how hard it would be to graft a Cyclone grill to a Comet?
