guys, since i'm addicted to nitrous . . . wanted to get some opinions on what a good window switch might be. I believe bryant had a regular switch that used pills, now he has a dial for it. bryant, which one do you have exactly? i'm looking for something to turn on and shut off without pills. Something I can adjust with a dial or digitally. I found the following 2: This one is like $150 This one ranges from $110-150 There is also some stuff called progressive kits, don't know what they are but they are pricy.
any recommendatios on which progressive unit to get . . . seems like they range in price from 300-600 and then there are the much more expensive ones which definitely aren't in my budget.
What does a progressive do that a window doesn't, and how does it work? I understand the window switch, as it is pretty straightforward.
http://www.dynotunenitrous.com/store/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=216 In simple language it keeps the nitrous from shocking the tires and blowing them off. It is a lot gentler on all parts tranny, rear end, motor. This link is just the first one i came across im not recommending this one, I prefer the NOS line myself.
this is the one im useing. http://www.jegs.com/i/MSD+Ignition/121/8956/10002/-1 mo's only runnig a power shot system fixed a 125. i dont belive that he would benifit with a progressive controler. right now hes looking for a window switch to turn off the nitrous if he over revs from a missed shift now that he has a t-5. i got a variable resistor that has a knob on it to adjust the turn on point on my window switch it was only a few bucks. much cheaper than pills and easyer to adjust.
Will progressive switch work with the single stage setups like Mo and I have? I like the idea of it not hitting as hard. I worry about using this on my trans/rear/driveshaft, knowing I will be pushing these items to their limit with nearly 500 hp hitting them.
progressive systems will work with single stage systems like you and mo have. they pulse the solinoids on and off to achive the progressive activation. this causes rapid wear on the solinoids and usually recomend frequent rebuilds of the solinoids. i had a jacobs progressive system once and it sucked. you would feel the system turing on and off rapidly. your head would be bobbing back and forth till it comes on at full throttle. i suspect that if you dealing with 300 to 500 hp systems then it will be usefull to have progressive. im running a 150 shot on drag radials and have no traction problems. if you want to soften the intiall hit of the nitrous you can lengthen the nitrous line from the solinoid to the plate or shorten the fuel line from the solinoid to the plate. rember the nitrous is beeing pushed in with 950 psi behind it and fuel is only being pushed in with 5 psi. so the nitrous will get in the motor first if they have the same line length. on my system my nitrous line is a little over twice as long as my fuel line is. ive see lots of guys have a lean pop out the intake when they hit there nitrous and try to fix it with fuel pressure or timeing. when in fact the nitrous is just geting there to fast and needs a longer line.
The nos systems we run are smooth, I have never heard of feeling the pulse. It pulses so fast you can barely hear the pulses. As far as wearing the solonoids quicker, I can't tell any differnce. The only other thing I do reccomend is a safety solonoid. But I reccomend these anyway. As far as a lean backfire, some systems have a fuel offset feature that can be used to cure this problem
progressive controlers have there place and i feel its not on cars that only are running under 200 hp systems.
I feel that if your going to use nitrous, Use it anyway you want. But if you want to use it to it's full potential, and are going to buy A window switch anyway, why not have the best of both worlds? But when someone passes you on the track because you blew the tires off on the hit, don't say I didn't tell you so.
its a second nitrous solinoid before the one you have in the nitrous line. when you hit the nitrous with a progressive controler the safty one just opens while the main one pulses.
