Tonight I went with my youngest daughter to a cruise night, that's held on a private golf course. I wish I had a video camera.... I parked next to a 69 Mach 1 and a 69 Camaro SS.....I would say, at least 80% of the people walked right past the Mustang & Camaro, to get to my car. Plus, I was the only Maverick.
Cuz mustangs and camaros are a dime a dozen. Yes, I look when I see them, but only to see if the paint is laid good, if that is the original dash, etc. But when I find an old comet on the side of the road for sale, I do a u-turn, and take craploads of pictures, then share them. I did it 2 weeks ago with that white rust bucket, and the "California Comet" at the strip club last year.
Amen brother, Mustangs, Camaros and 55-57 Chevies are a dime a dozen and everything imagineable has been done to them, I look at them and respect the work but would much rather look at a not so common car and I think the general public is swinging that way also. Case in point I took a first place last weekend in 70s category in car show against a nice Boss 302 Mustang and some Novas, El Camino and assorted other cars, there was a crowd around my car all day. Sure great for the ego and hard work put into it
I know what you mean. I went to show last Sat, parked next to a bud's Vette and another bud's 68 Mustang. I swear, twice as many people made a bee line to the Mav as the 'Stang or Vette. Lots more folks asked questions about the Mav, too.
Had the same kind of thing happening tonight at a cruise-in too, actually. I'm always surprised by the attention the car gets, and from whom. As I was leaving I had to pause for a few minutes after buckling my son in because three little kids had walked up and wanted take pictures of it. Before I could even get inside I had to resolve a dispute among three older gentlemen as to what kind of taillights it had. It always gets lots of positive comments, even parked among the legitimate purebreeds.
lol almost same story here, my son and I went to our first local show earlier today and we parked between 4-5 mustangs, few of them came together and low and behold many more pics were taken of the maverick. Needless to say we saw a couple of them with dumbfounded looks as people strolled by theirs. I felt like a rock star... This place had about 200 cars and only 1 maverick and a few people even commented on not seeing one for quite some time. These cars may have been a dime a dozen in the day but are far and few between now. I am very proud to be an maverick owner as many of you people are and I swear someday these cars will see a sharp increase in value and esteem. not that I really care I just like having something different. oh btw on another note we seen a super clean bastard child 77 ish Mustang 2 King Cobra (red) that really rocked the show. Many stang owners laugh at these economy stangs but like mavericks they are getting very rare and seem to be rising in popularity. anyway that's my 2 cents worth on this subject sorry I didn't take pics, next time.
Same story here time and time again and the other car owners are starting to notice it and make comments. I love it!
Anything thats not mainstream, usually gets the extra looks and admirers. A nicely done Maverick/Comet is a novelty to people, and other cars like Pinto's (<---shameless plug here!!) Cougars, full size Galaxies, or Torino's also grab peoples attention beyond the "cookie cutter" cars like Mustangs Camaro's, Chevelles, Nova's, El Camino's etc.
