It sure is in better shape than the Belvedere that the city of Tulsa buried in a "so called" sealed concrete vault back in 58. They dug it up in 2008, 50 years later, only to find it a smelly, rusted through hulk with 0.00 miles on it. :)

Maybe Tulsa should have just pushed their Plymouth down an embankment :D

Yeah, I remember that... They didn't seal the concrete, and they buried it below the water line. Really sad. I imagine it was especially tragic if you were wide-eyed little kid back in '58 who'd been there when they buried it, and had been anticipating that moment your whole life. It was 2008! The world had already let you down - No flying cars, we never went back to the moon, no Star Trek-like society of peace and racial harmony, no domestic robots doing your chores and cleaning your house, (Roomba? ROOMBA?! Get this POS out of my sight!) worldwide poverty is at an all-time high but at least we saved the mother#$%ng WHALES, no flying cars, NO FLYING CARS, and now you've traveled back to your childhood home of Tulsa for the big time capsule opening only to find THIS.

Art least they could have added a pump to the vault

When the Plymouth came out of the hole, Tulsa handed it off to Boyd Coddington to restore. Boyd since passed away and, last I heard, it wound up in the hands of a New Jersey restorer, I believe, hired by the "winner" of the car ( a raffle, held back in 58, to predict the population of Tulsa in 50 years when the vault was to be opened. The winner or their decendant got the Plymouth.)

Was that car a victim of the Mt. St. Helens eruption? :hmmm:

I think it would have had a better chance going against the volcano :rofl2:

Look at the rear stance - it wasn't originally designed as a low rider. The undercarrige was rotted so bad that the rear of the car simply fell to the ground

I was referring to the Tulsa Belvadere on the rear frame/spring rot but your Mercury does look pretty much the same back in that area.

Do you think that those nice Mercury floorboards have any re-sale value? I know that there is always a market for nice Maverick floorboards when you can find them. (y)

Other then the trunk floor and one small spot on the floor, there is practically no serious rust on the car. It's pretty deep down in the woods, but me and a buddy talked about it and went down there and figured out a way to get it out with a winch and about 200 feet of chain or cable. We'd have to carry a rear axle and wheels down there to put on it, then there just happens to be some big trees in just the right spots that you could hook a winch onto to drag it back right side up, and then slowly drag it a few hundred feet up the huge hill by moving the winch from tree to tree as you work your way up. Then there is a 4 wheeler trail that comes about a half mile down into the woods off a neighborhood road that's just wide enough you could back a truck and trailer down in there with a little fancy maneuvering. If it wasn't a 4 door, we'd have already been getting ready to attempt it. We still talk about it every now and then. I mean, even though it's a 4 door, getting that car out of there and putting it back on the road would be a pretty freaking epic adventure and story. :rofl2:

I would clean it up, put some rolling wheels/tires on that and e-bay it(or Craigslist at the least). If the floors are good, check out the frame & stuff. Someone might want it for a major project or a parts car.

I'm sure CKD and all the other Rat rod/psychobilly magazines would LOVE pics of that car... Hell they'd probably throw a drivetrain and some Mexican blankets in there and call it a day.
