My new toy for the mav

Well i got my street scoop II finally. i bought it used. had a few scuff marks and the red butterflies. i polished it up and painted the face black and the butterflies green. Anyone had one a maverick? i would love to get some measurements for cutting the hood since its a grabber from someone who has done it. i can do it easily being a body man but help from someone who has done it is always nice.

But i wouldnt have an issue with cutting a fiberglass repro or a 1970, 1973-75 grabber hood

 

Nice scoop but I would use a regular hood with it though. I think that an additional scoop on a grabber hood makes it look way too busy, thats just my opinion though.

 

i dont have a regular hood. just a few grabber hoods. been collecting so im not too afraid

 

Sell one of the grabber hoods then buy a regular hood and you will still have plenty of money left over.. Grabber hoods with a third scoop are just to busy.

 

I have never really cared much for Grabber hoods in the first place. But they do have a place on a restored or lightly modified car, and look OK stock. Putting a butterfly scoop right in the middle of one is just too much clutter ... I can not visualize that looking good. Just because you have a few hoods is not a good reason to cut one up.

The only way I would be a fan of that scoop is if it had a real blower and no carbs under it. It is supposed to look like a Top Fuel or Funny Car piece ... the rest of the car should match in my mind... back-halved, wall-to-wall rubber. Otherwise, you are just playing around and creating mis-matches in your styling. It would just become something that really sticks out and shouts "Hey, look at me" rather than fitting in with the car.

Your car looks pretty clean like it is. I think this would be a step in the wrong direction.

Exactly, plus 90% of the time, people that have those scoops, have nothing to back it up. Plus they are kinda outta style these days.
Another thing to consider, is your Grabber hood will get you more more, than that scoop ever will.

 

I'm running a Weiand tunnel ram manifold with 2 Holley 450's so I also needed to cut a hole in my hood.

I hung my mint Grabber hood up on the wall and bought a flat hood to cut up.

 

Somebody offer to swap him a stock hood for one of his grabber hoods !!!

i thank all for your comments. i happen to have around 425 horses so i can well enough back up the look i put out and the car is going to be sprayed solid satin black maybe some some gloss grabber stripes. the hood will blend in and the scoop will break up the black as well as let the motor breath better.i have a 1 1/2" mounting plate so it wont be tall and funny looking. it kinda hugs the motor.

 

Bottom line is it's your car and you can do what you want with it, but you aren't going to find many people that think putting a hole in a hood that was only produced for 2 years is a good idea. I'm sure someone out there has done it... as far as the information you're looking for, it shouldn't be any different than cutting a hole in a non-grabber hood, (or any other hood for that matter). They pretty much have the same supports underneath as far as I have seen. Take some measurements and start cutting.
