thats an aftermarket automactic shifter, you can put it almost anywhere.

It's the cheapest one i think, but also one of the most reliable ones.

Thats a good link- so for the majority of standard or mildly tuned 302's it's not worth the extra work or expense of full length headers- unless you want a fraction more torque or going to tune it up well. I think I'm gonna go with shorties so I dont have to worry about chopping bits about to make long ones fit! Either way- gonna be better than the cast ones :)

ok guys now i have figured its not worth the trouble for the full length headers and i have some questions
if i pick the Hedman 88400 will they fit in no problems
and do i hook up everything exhaust wise the same as i would full length headers

the results wont be exactly the same , the ones they used for that test were 1 5/8", the hedman 88400's are 1 1/2"

the dough thorley shorties are 1 5/8" i believe they would work the best, but most people are not inclined to pay the price for them.

you will have to make custom downpipes. Or modify your exiting ones. It's not that hard if you have a welder and a cutoff wheel.

    Heres what info i have-
First off i didn't use the ball and socket joints that come with the headers because i didn't have them. I'd guess they'd work if you put the proper bend in them but if not i have a diagram showing how i made my own.

i didn't have to do anything at all to the shift linkage or power steering. the drivers side exhaust pipe might be in the way of some steering linkage so you might have to take a torch and some channel locks. just heat the exhuast pipe and put a dent in it so it can clear when you turn left. (some people have this problem and others havn't. it depends on how big of exhuast pipe you have i think.)
i couldn't turn completly left but put the dent in it and don't have the problem anymore.

i didn't have to do anything to the headers to make them fit. (Hedman 88400's) They bolt right on no problem. If your standing at the front of the car looking down the passenger side header, the exhaust pipe does turn to the right. i crammed in 2 1/2 pipe to the mufflers with 2 1/4 out the mufflers so that made it a little harder for me.
