Wow, there are a lot of owners from North Carolina. I'm here in Winston-Salem. Are there ever any get togethers in the state? My Cougar club used to have get togethers down at the Charlotte Autofair. I do have a little bit of doubt whether or not its a true GT. It has front drum brakes, no console, and body colored inner dooor panel surrounds. I would have thought a GT would have at least disc brakes, but I don't know. I did just order a Marti report, so I'll find out in a few days. $20 would well be worth the piece of mind. The other thing that worries me is the price. I do feel that it's high, but then again, I doubt I could have another Comet restored for the price. I'm not wanting nor needing another project, and this is a car thats already 99.9 % finished. And its restored the way I like; back to stock. I saw the 72 on ebay, and its beautiful. I just wish it were local! Anyway, I'll let everyone know what the Marti report says.
I got your message...PM returned. I'm surprised nobody recognized the pics. I posted pics of that car back in '02/'03(?) when I saw it at the Spring Charlotte AutoFair. Craig will remember that it was owned by a nice lady who would have been eligible for a senior discount down at the local biscuit and coffee shop. No, not the lady that owned it all of her life, Lois found it and she and her son(owned a body shop in the Concord, NC area) restored it. To my knowledge it is a real GT. I gave her the hood ornament for her car. The paint was pretty slick back when I saw it. The motor appeared to be stock. I don't know if it was rebuilt, or just cleaned up. I don't remember talking to her about that. There was some work yet to be done in the trunk floor when I saw it, even though the car was fully painted and assembled. It was rusted through in the floor on the driver's side of the trunk at the tail panel. Fixed? I don't know if it had any other issues, but it sure looked clean. Why did they paint the interior of the doors??? Beats me, but I have seen stranger things. Aside from the wheels, that is the only thing that I remember not being stock. It may have had a 4V? Can't remember. Maybe she still owns it. I have seen it on other sites for sale before. As for value? If you are looking to spend anywhere near that, talk to me first. I may have a second option for you. Call or e-mail. I'm not on this site much these days. Seth Roberts seth@realtor.com 919-632-7384
Hmm, interesting. I just received the Marti report, and it was ordered with the GT Appearance Group. But it was originally a 6 cylinder car! I thought GTs would have have to been a V8 car. But this would explain the drum brakes. Other options were a C-4 automatic, 2.79 rear axle, white letter tires, power steering, floor shifter, am radio and rear bumper guards. And the exterior yellow and black interior were factory. Sounds like this car was all show and no go lol. Well, I may just be passing on this car. A little too much money for now. I'll still be on the lookout for another one, though! Thanks for all the help!
Welcome from Chesapeake, VA we are on the Carolina line I would love to host a mini meet at my restoration shop for all the North Carolina & Virginia members ......and any others of course......nice looking Comet hope it works out for you
from Michigan. Make sure it is a real GT with the V8 option. The interior door trim/paint is not correct. I believe the hi back buckets came with the deluxe door trim panel with the wood grain. At least it did with my '74 Grabber that I ordered new. It could have been different in '73. Thats alot of money for a Comet GT.
Think that's a great idea and hope you move on it. There have been a couple of queries about a meet in this area but nothing happened yet. Might have to start small and look for growth. My Sprint is still months away from being on the road. When its done I'd be very interested in a mini-meet. If you decide to host one before mine is drivable I'll drive something else to meet the folks and see some cars, even if its just 2 or 3. Gotta start somewhere.
There are a couple guys in the tidewater area that would come if You were to host one. I did one in 04 or 05 I think. We ended up with about 5 cars I think and a few members who were working on there cars. I sent invites to all the Va members. I think i got the addresses from the membership person which think now is Seth Roberts. If You want to do this i would help You out just let me know. Later Tim
Back again, just letting you know the progress of my car.Well the rear has been tubbed and we are putting 15x12 with a 6.50 back space wheel under it.I have decided to use the street lite race wheels front and rear with the MT street radial. Also putting in the 15 gallon fuel cell. The car is getting there still waiting on the front end stuff ordered from speed pro everything up there is back ordered. It is going pretty quick though on everything else. Once it's done all you north carolina guys come take a look for this is going to be one sweet bad a-- ride. Look forward to driving this car for it is my first real build to this magnitude. It has been a wallet flatiner very fast. Otherwords lesson learned you going to build a ride plan for the worst and have some $'s saved this project hasn't been cheap by any means. I have never been a ford fan until i got this maverick and i could of taken the money and bought a car done already but this car was screaming fix me i have life left. So i listened and when it is all done close to $30,000.00 will be in this car. That is not including any outside body work. The body is in really good shape but maybe later i will work on that.Until next time KEEP THEM MAVERICKS ROLLING!!!!
