EDIT: HERE is a second Maverick I just found on CL...let me know what you think of both. Thanks

    http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/cto/1837938135.html

    Heres the craigslist ad:

For sale is my 71 Ford maverick 2 door coupe. It has a straight six 250 in it that has 70,500 orginal miles on it. Converted to disc brakes on the front, safe to drive clean title. 3 speed automatic transmission. Interior needs work but the body has no visible rust. If you want pics, call and ask will send picture message.

He didn't include a number so I had to wai for him to e-mail me which took a couple days. His asking price is $1750. What do you guys think its worth?

I also asked for interior pics but nothing yet.

Here is an additional text he sent me: It runs great. Does need a little carb work cause it has a high idle. No leaks, changed the oil about 300 miles ago and the only thing I would worry about.....

and thats the end of the text....no part 2 and no response when I called/text him so maybe his phone died? I don't know but a heads up is what I am looking for right now :D

here are pics he sent to my e-mail:

Price is a little high, in my opinion. Might try to talk him down a bit?

scope out the floorpans before you buy. Especially on passenger side under passenger's feet. Check out the carpet to make sure it doesn't look like it has been wet on that side, and look under the car. Prime rusting spot.

Oh yea I am definately on that. I majorly failed on my 76 when I bought it. The guy said i was 95% rust free and at a glance just had some rear wheelwell issues on either side and a spot on a front fender. Later I discoverd I was missing my passenger side torque box and a dinnerplate size portion of my floor pan there.

I always intend on talking down the price but what is a good start point and a satisfactory end point? I have the spare cash so thats not a big concern and if I don't get it theres no real problem. I deploy to Afghanistan in a little over 2 weeks anyhow so I won't be able to do anything major with it for atleast a year.

Price seems good to me, maybe even a little cheap.

I think the price is pretty good too. Of course, if you can talk him down a little that's a bonus. Like was mentioned check the floor pans, and also pour some water down the cowls and make sure it all goes out on the ground. Also the vinyl top is a major rusting place. Check that out good. Good luck.:)

Thanks for the tip but how do I know if "ALL" the water comes out onto the ground? Should I just be checking for wet carpet?

Yeah, the windsheild is a P.I.T.A.
the previous owner for my car had the windheild replaced, my car is usually parking a garage, but I've since moved to a place without one. It's been raining like mad here and I've learned that whoever replaced the windshield did a horrible job at making sure the seals were on nice and tight.

Nothing is more annoying than receiving 2 cups of rain water on your lap while driving.

Other areas to check for rust: trunk floor, fender apron under the battery, front under side of the hood, bottom of the radiator support. Looks like a nice car in the pictures.

no clue there hasn't been a response to e-mail yet and he didn't include phone number.

It looks like the passenger rear quarter has some rust which probably is through to the trunk.

Surface rust would be what I would hope for but no telling the extent of it if he covered a crap ton of it up.

I noticed a hole in the grill. Might check the radiator for rock damage. Body looks strait but like the others said. Rust is the big one. If there isn't any rust issues, the price sounds good.
