1971 4 dr Comet. I went in the scrap yard with a few tools and came out with the following. Small front / back bumper (rear has some pitting, nothing major ) brackets need some work. V8 Motor mounts. Mint Grille w/ Signal lights $100.00 total. YEAH BABY!
The pick 'n Pull (formerly Pick your part) on Barlow. My dad is friends with one of the dudes who works there and he called us up as soon as the Comet came in. It's been there 1 day so far. Glass looked ok, front windshield is cracked, chrome trim is all nice, interior (seats) were in really good condition. All bench. Some rust on the body but a lot of solid panels if needed.
Got the grille and signal lights installed. And then after sizing up the small bumper, realized I could push my old one back yet another 3 inches. Yay! ps: If anyone knows where I can find a splash guard (the metal sheet with the chrome under the grille) I'd be a happy camper. Mine is rotting out on the driver side. It doesn't look too bad from the outside, but it still hurt me on the inside.
I like the big bumper moved in 3 inches. That is what I did alng with moving the rear bumper in 1.5 inches. I don't have the pics up on the rear bumper yet but the front bumper pics are on my images. Niced job.
pps: Saw a orange and White Comet yesterday driving around in the Marlborough area of Calgary here, if it's any of you guys, sorry for trailing you, I was simply admiring the car. Damn that was a nice car.
Did you black out your grill, or find it that way in the bone yard? Does your bumper tuck (which looks great) mean you're abandoning the small bumper switch?
I painted the grille today my self, I really don't dig the plain Jane grey it comes in. I like the bumper tuck A LOT, but I'm torn because I also like the small bumpers. The small ones need some work, the chrome is flaked off worse that I thought. ( I honestly missed it during the excitement of such a deal haha) the front one is bent just slightly. Un-noticeable if you're just glancing. And if I put the small ones on, I'll want the skirts that go under to hide the undercarridge, which will probably cost a penny or two.
