so i just got done removing the cowl from my parts car and i have to admit that that was a big pain in the rear. the worst part is that i'm going to have to do it all over agian when i remove the cowl on my comet. but in the end it will all be worth it.

that job definitely will be farmed out, I have seen you guys do it and it looks painful. How much time and material did you put into getting it out?

That is the only way to fix it right. Had Ford put some decent paint on them before the outer panel was attached, it would never have been an issue. Typical engineers, intelligent people without a lick of common sense.

No wonder these cars rotted out so fast up here in the salt belt. You southern guys have rotten cowls. Imagine how fast they rotted up here with winters of road salt pouring into them. We lost torque boxes and floors in a few years.

The weird thing is, Mavericks were the first cars built by Ford to be dipped in "E coat" , I guess it didn't help.

i just used a drill and some various size bits to remove it from the parts car. when i go to remove it from my comet i am going to use a spot weld cutter i got from the snap on man. it's not a snap on tool but only cost me 15 bones. i wouldn't have even bothered removing the cowl from the parts car but for some reason there is a bunch of bondo on the passenger corner of the cowl on the comet, same as the fender. so i needed a replacement. plus i do think that it's rusted out under and that needs to be fixed.
