I did the 302 swap a while back and was wondering if I need to change the front springs. I didn't think there was a big difference from the 250 to the 302. just wondering if I should order 1975 mav springs w/a 302 or is there another fix to raise front end. the top of the tires are at the bottom of the fenders. would like to raise it about an inch. also seems to be sitting lower on the front drivers side.
I just bought some new springs for my car they lifted my car abt 2in. My car did have some coils material removed thou the springs were'nt old. I got 8 cyl w/o air car rides much better now. I got them frm www.rockauto.com.
From what I've seen...Mavs tend to sag with age. Get you some new springs for sure. I've seen some good prices on ebay.
I still have the 250 springs on mine. They didn't sag too bad. And after I put TFS heads with the edelbrock intake and carb I had to cut the springs to get the ride height down. yours must be worn out.
heres the chart i was given to see the spring rates for the maverick springs. i decided to go with mustang springs 550lbs racing springs from npd i like them had to cut a complete coil out of it to get them to stock height they aren't to rough for daily driving but helps the handling alot on the back country roads hope this helps http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/repair/coilsprings.html
purchased springs. thanks for your replies... any easy way to replace these without losing life or limb? I rented a spring compressor from autozone for free but it looks like it won't work since the fingers grab the springs from the outside. I've heard of people using jack stands a floor jack and removing the lower ball joint but like I said I would like not to get killed. thanks!
You need an inside coil spring compressor, it goes through the hole in the shock tower. I got mine from the snap-on man for like $70, although I had to put a section of pipe on mine to take up threads because they were hitting spring perch. Just like in this pic
AZ used to rent the internal spring compressor. That's what I used years ago, And that's the proper tool for the job.
Mav Dan has it right, get a new one! just be careful of rented spring compressors, the threads get wore out and will pop on you!
Also stay away from harbor freight spring compressors, had one break while using it, good thing I had my safety chain.
compressor tool wtf? I purchased the tool from advanced and it looks like the only way it will work is by cutting a piece of pipe so it doesn't hit the spring perch like one of you guys said. is this the only way? I had less of a hard time droppping the motor in.
