im putting my mav together its a late 70 column switch car ,this car didnt have the heater hoses connected so i wanna hook it up to see if it works whcu hose goes where the hosees are stacked coming out of the fire wall i was thinking the top hose runs to the intake and the bottom hose to the water pump. Is this correct ???

thanx or the pictures and diagrams but i still cant clearly see ,i think these diagrams are for 71 up heater outlets and inlets the 70 heater coer comes out of the fire wall a little differently, they are stacked one just above the other not side beside
it really doesnt mater. the heater core will heat up when hot water goes through it. its not directional.
It matters if you want the water going to the heater core that just passed through the block or if you want water that just passed through the radiator.
The bottom heater hose goes to the engine and the top hose goes to the pump. The pump is sucking and the engine has pressure. This will fill the heater core completely evacuating the air from the heater core.
Also it matters which direction if you have a heater control valve. I would rather have the HCV on the hose coming from the engine, so I'm not pressurizing my heater core all the time...
the heater core does not controle the direction of flow. the water pump does. the water that goes to the core will allways be comeing from the block and going to the the heater core then back to the water pump. pauls sugestion of haveing it goto the bottom and out the top to bleed the air is a very sound suggestion.
I don’t believe I said that. Of course the water traveling in the heater hose to the heater core will always be running in the same direction. PaulS described it better. The water needs to fill the core so it is feed through the bottom of the core and exits from the top. I have noticed on my Falcon the heater kicks out hotter air if it is plumb this way.
Having the heater control valve on the line from the engine is also a good point. I thought that only AC cars had the valves - that would explain why mine doesn't have one.
