Don't know whether I'm more embarrassed to say it took me six hours yesterday to get one spring back in or that I actually played with the spring like an idiot for six hours before it went in. I have a loaner internal compressor, the type with the four hooks. I did it with the upper arm installed but not bolted all the way down. Would it be easier to do it with the upper arm off and put it on after the spring is compressed rather than compressing the spring and trying to slip in onto the ring at the top? This should not take six hours, an internal spring compressor, external compressor, two people, two crow bars, a baby sledge, a roll of duct tape and alot of sweat is what I'm thinkin'....:hmmm:

well crap. after posting all of that I gave the other side a try and the whole thing only took 20 minutes with the single compressor and two hands. I feel dumb. Did it the same way, don't know why it went in easy this time.... sorry guys. oh brother. This car might be the end of me lol.

That's the type that I wanted to use, but I get my money back from advanced auto when I return their loaner :yup:. As much of a pain that was I doubt I'll be taking them off again soon. (I say that now but watch them be off in a month again lol)

yahoo! :yahoo: That's awesome. Autozone is about 25 more minutes out of my way, but would have been way worth it.

^I use this type also^ But...I dont use the fork.I have a 1/4" steel plate that I put "on top" of the shock tower. It wont move skip or jump around and positively locates the rod and hooks in the center of the hole in the tower. It works well.

The fork will not slip, skip or jump around either. I remover many of coil springs with the fork on top of the shock tower.

I used one like this. I had to use a pipe in place of the washers to keep it from bottoming out. Otherwise it was perfect. I could remove the spring from the car while it was still compressed.

Never had a problem with it...the grooves on the plate keep it from moving around

    fork style coil remover?

this may be a stupid question but if you put the fork on top of the shock tower...how do you get the spring out when it's compressed? do you remove the spring perch and then losen the spring compressor? will that be enough room to pas the spring?

    thanks

i just unbolt my upper control arm to give me more room. I cut the springs and changed the perches with the spring still in the tower. without the upper arm i don't think there's anything to get in ur way if you wanted to take it out tho. just swing the arm out of the way at the ball joint and uncompress the spring the same way you compressed it.
