c4 rear seal

guys i found that the rubber dust cover thats sticks out around ur driveshaft right behind the rear tranny seal has a crack .Will this leak or does it have anything to do with sealing at all i kinda thought it was more of a dust shield,Oh by the way thi sis a casefill c-4 i just installed but havnet filled with fluid or driven it yet i kinda wanted to see if i need to change this before i go any further

 

It is just a dust shield (and it doesn't work very well) so that is not part of the sealing surface.

 

thanx for the help.I just lik to be for sure .when i took the spare yolk out to install the drive shaft some fluid leaked out as they always do and when i had gotten the drive shaft in i notice a fluid drop at the back bottom of the rubber seal and whipped it off and noticed the crack

 

if i have to buy one that comes w/boot, i cut it off...

Yep, I just never use the boot type seals. I have seen too many that were full of grit, grinding away at the yoke.
