Over the weekend I found a 73 Comet 2-door, 302 auto, body is fair with some rust, int. is shot, but it starts and runs like a bat out of He. were there many made, and if some one could help, it has an open rear, but what size is it? and how hard would it be to put a posi unit in it, thanks, Joe

There were lots of 302 Comets, I don't believe that particular one is rare unless it's a GT or has some unique interior/paint/option... The rear end is the 8 inch.

thanks for the info, it has loud dual exhaust and sounds mean, I think I will paint it flat black, put some chrome wheels on it and call it a hotrod.

My Marti Report says 22,276 were built, with the 302 C-4 option. Not that rare...

I have a 73 4 door Comet with a factory 302 in it. There were a bunch made as has been said in the post before.

When these cars were made, it was a different time. Almost all new cars now come loaded with many options... how many cars now don't have power windows, door locks, and A/C?

Back then, all that stuff was mostly add-ons .... they had a few option packages, but it wasn't as common as today.

Mercury used to push an image of being upscale from Ford ... usually more options and plusher interiors available ... along with that, they would advertise inexpensive V8 power in the Comets. It was available in the Mavericks, but they used to advertise it more as a Comet thing.

The result is that Ford sold 5 times as many Mavs compared to Comets, but a higher percentage of the Comets got V8s.
