I have a power steering challenge on my '73 Grabber.

The whole unit that is underneath connected to the
suspension looks like I should just replace the whole
thing i.e. the valve, the piston, hoses, etc.

I wouldn't mind just buying the whole assembly new.
The question is, where can you get it? Is this assembly
used on other cars so I can locate it? Mustangs? Granadas?

    Help! :)

you should be able to get the unit at most auto stores. I believe they call it a bendix system? most people here will probably suggest you change it to a manual steering system as the power ones have pretty sloppy steering. I had mine replace a couple years ago, I don't remember my total price but I think parts and the labor to put it on ran around 250. it's attached to your idler arm I believe and to the draglink. I think it might be a pretty big job to seperate them because I think they're pressed on. someone else here will probably correct me and know better but I hope that helps

My power steering has never been "sloppy" in over 30 years. It does leak now pretty bad though...

Al the power steering linkage isn't that hard to get off. You will need a pickle fork to seperate the end and to the idler arm and disconnect the hose. You can either get a new one from a parts store or rebuilt the one you have. Since you are doing all that you might be better off and replace the hoses. When you come up here I'll show on how to remove it.

If you are gonna muck around with it ... replace everything ... cylinder, valve, hoses, pump, tie-rod ends. Mustang catalogs sell new boots for the cylinder .... The entire project will probably take 5 hours and $250 ...

Yeah, that's about the price range I'm finding. And yes,
I'm taking the opportunity to replace the entire front
end and everything in the power steering system
including the pump. Also doing the front disc conversion
    at the same time.

When I look for the power steering control valve I come
across two kinds of listings for it, one lists it as "with Flare
Fittings" and other listings that say nothing about this.

Anybody know what the difference is, or if there's any
    difference at all?
