Hey maverick/comet owners, I'm new to car restoration and i need tips/tricks for my 1972 maverick. New Jersey weather isn't the nicest to older cars so i have a bit of rust damage. im going to end up buying a battery tray off of ebay, but i wanted to know how well mustang inner fender aprons match up with a 72 maverick. . . and how i can get ahold of any aftermarket parts, especially both front fenders. I heard that the mustang II fenders are a match but i was hoping that someone could varify this for me, thanks for any help. Joe
Welcome to the board. Where in Jersey? I was born in Montclair. Mustang ll fenders are not the same. Only fenders from a Maverick or Comet (of that era) will fit. Most body parts for a Maverick or Comet are specific to that type of car.
oh ok thanks. I live in North Jersey. do you know any aftermarket sites i can find the fenders on? i looked on ebay and there are pretty expensive
from across the border in Northeast Pennsylvania Look at the front of your fenders at the bottom and you will see a notch. Fenders from a 70-71-72 are a direct fit with that same notch out for the bumper. I'm not sure of the 73's but the later big bumper cars do not have that fender notch. The Classifieds on this site - Ebay - Craigslist are about your only hope unless you can find a few good donor cars in junk yards.

I repaired my battery tray area with sheet metal. Battery tray was bought new from a Mustang vendor. I was able to save the battery tray brace. See http://www.1bad6t.com/Maverick/maverick_7.html
