For the money and easy of installation - I highly vote for the Pertronix ignition system. It takes longer to read the instructions than it does to install one. A lot has been writen about the Pertronix, so just do a search and you will find many threads. For a stock engine, Pertronix I is perfect. If you have a modified engine, Pertronix II is a better choice.

I would stay away from a HEI and their clones. The Dura-spark II is a better triger system with a MDS or GM module. The HEI with the coil mounted on the distributor is asking for problems. If you feel like reading: http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=19440

Thank you Jeff. That was interesting and educational. I dont want to end up with alot problems. I plan on making more mods to the motor as time goes on, so what do I need to get started? (mods include diff. cam and carb, and a shot of nos) car will be on the street as much as pos.(the nos is so I can "spank" my buddy from time to time) As always I'm trying to keep cost down and quality up

A real Dura-spark module made by Ford by grown men or an aftermarket module made in some 3rd world country made by a kid who isn't tall enough to see what is sitting on the bench? One will last 20 years and the other will last 3 months. Since Ford doesn't make a module anymore the MSD and GM module is what we have to choose from.
