I'm getting plans ready for 77 maverick, so when I get back next year i can work on her. Here my question, what are the advantage of tubular control arms? The car has a 302, that I'm going to rebuild, I'm keeping stock rims, and I don't plan on doing coil-over. Thanks
they are usually stiffer than stock. if you are looking to get the best handling possible then they would be worth looking into. for standard street use they really are not worth geting. just rebuilding the front end will get you nice tight steering.
Tubular arms are lighter so you have less unsprung weight. It helps when road racing or on a slalom course but for a daily driver it is a waste of money.
I have just done this on my 72 maverick. I cutt out the whole front end put in a mustang ii and bought the tubler upper and lower control arm kit from speedway's and not only doe's it reduce weight and better handling,it eleminated the shock towers for bigger headers.I got the kit for $1400.00 with shipping. I didn't use coil over's i desided to go to heavier springs other than stock springs. This is a daily driver and a night at the strip car. It was more work than i thought to do this but the ride height and the looks is awesome.
If I had the cash to put tubular control arms on my Mav....for the street/strip/track...whatever. I'd do it in a heartbeat. The lower 'control arms' on the Mav are kinda scarey. A little piece of sheetmetal with a balljoint at the end. Even the Pinto has a heavier duty set-up. IMO, in the interest of safety, there is never a waste of money.
Your right it is exspencive for i was looking at $2500.00 at first but found a donar car for some parts.This is how i saved $1000.00.I didn"t think this build was going to be so intense but once i started the car it's to late, just do it and do it right the first time is my monto.
