Wide band O2 is in! sweet So the idle was really rich which we adjusted. On off idle the reading goes to 20 and then back down to the 13 range. On WOT I'm around 12 and past 4-5K I go around 10-11. Still have a lot of problem with off idle. Car basically falls on it's face. We got larger nozzles. Started at 31 and now we are at 37. Each nozzle set (I only need one) costs $20 so it's not cheap fun. I am noticing an improvement I think but still getting a stumble right off idle. Also gettign a backfire when first warming up the car even though the readings are in the 14.3 on idle.
There is 2 things i see wrong, Number one is in one of your post you mention the check ball in the accelerator pump cavity. This must be a real old float bowl as Holley hasn't used these in years, I have had some trouble in the past with this type of bowl and usually end up junking the bowl for a mushroom type bowl. It seems that the ball will wear the hole and when you accelerate the ball wont completely seal, So you end up losing some of the pump shot. And 30cc isn't much to start with. I would try to find a mushroom bowl and try that, Because if you are going into the 20s on afr when you mash the gas, You are not getting the fuel needed. Its really a wonder that it don't backfire Thur the carb with that lean of a mixture. Second is when cold the car should be idling around the 12s on afr. Your idle feed restrictors made need some work. But now for my advice, I personally dont like or use a vacuum secondary carb (there is just to many variables to deal with) I would buy me (you) a Holley HP double pumper. They are expensive as all know, But out of the box they seem to be one of the better cheaper carbs out there. ( when i say cheaper I'm comparing to BG, Quick Fuel, Braswell, And the other top of the line carbs) Hope you get it straightened out.
hey that's great advice because after a lot of tuning Bryant and I have come to the same conclusion that something must be wrong with the checkball thing. We have literally replaced everything else. I tried another bowl which also was a checkball thing and same problem. I'll look into the holley HP carbs. thanks for the help again.
