Over this weekend I thought I would tackle some of the little problems the mav' has. One of them was the dome light. After pulling the cover off I found there was no light. Easy enuff. But instead of just replaceing the bulb I opted to replace the bezel that someone had tightened too much and broke in half. No problem, I have another one in my 73 comet. So I pulled the one from the comet,.. and its different, not by much, but enuff to warrant some fabracation. Now while replacing the light fixture I noticed that the support beam holding the dome light was getting HOT. Really HOT. So here's the million dollar question, How do I rewire the dome light without having to remove the headliner?
I dont think its a wire problem, maybe a grounding problem. Sounds like your grounding the 12v wire. But if you want to run a new wire, you might be able to fish a new wire through the windshield pillar by using the old wire. Solder a new wire to the old wire and then pull it through. It comes out behind the drivers side kick panel.
Thanks, I'll give that a try. So a grounding issue would cause the metal to get hot? What do you mean? You know, I was doing this in the day time, I guess it could have just been the sun heating the roof, and my clumsyness caused the fuse to blow. I dont have any replacement fuses so this will have to continue next weekend.
my first thought is that siting in the sun is what make it hot. if the dome light wire was making it hot it would have to be shorting out. if its shorts out it will blow the fuse instantly. then it wouldnt heat up once the fuse blows. so i really doubt you have a problem with the wire causing the support beam to get hot.
