    Hi all,
I've had my maverick for years, and have always shot down the offers to buy! I love the old girl!! Today after work I hopped in and headed to the freeway, listening to an odd whistle as I accelerated. Someone stole my air filter housing!! I'm not having any luck with my usual haunts, any suggestions on where to get one?

I hate a friggin thief! But welcome aboard anyway. We need to know the engine size. I'm assuming you are looking for a factory air cleaner. I believe I have a good one for a 302. And it did come straight out of a 73. Let me know if that's what you're looking for.

Welcome From Riverside :) you can always go aftermarket also. Any parts store should have it for a V8 for an I6 mustang unlimited has the aftermarket air cleaners.

I'm near Oakland. I've got the littlest engine, mostly stock. My brother is a mechanic, so I've always deferred knowing the actual sizes of things to him. He's ok with using the parts I can get from Kragen O'Rielly, but I'd like to keep it how it was. Somewhere along the line, (I'm owner #3) the carborator was changed and is not stock, and I was told that the ones I can get at the general parts store would need some modificiations to work out. I'm just so frusterated with it all!!

Thanks for the ideas, I appreciate them all- still no luck- the smallest adapter to the single barrel carb that I've found so far is 2 and 5/8 inch. My carb has a hole of only 2 1/8 inch. So I'm still on the lookout. My husbands thought at this point is to just replace the whole engine- go big or go home... a bit extreme because someone stole the air filter housing!!

One way to keep people out of your engine compartment is to buy a lite duty chain , about, 4 feet or so, take one of the bolts out of the hood release handle and bolt the chain to it. Route the chain between the grill and the radiator, close the hood, rap the chain around the nearest bracket or frame and use a master lock with a key. Remember to put your new key with you Maverick car keys. I did this years ago when I stored my orginal Grabber for Winter in Grandmas garage where I could not be there to keep an eye on the car. You know people say things and they watch to. I removed the rotor also just in case. No one ever touched the car. I took the chain off while driving. We had a '78 Mustang II that was stolen in '82. Never saw is again! It herts!!

^I take my coil wire off and put it under seat, because my car requires no key to start it.

Like i said in an earlier post. Mustang unlimited has the aftermarket air cleaners for the six cylinders. Also classicinlines.com carries them. Along with adaptors thatll fit your carb. They specialize in fords.
