so i just picked up a t10 from my neighbor across the street from me for 40 bones. he is a chevy guy and when i asked him how much it was worth to him he said noting its a ford trans. but we ended up agreeing on 40 so figure it was a pretty good deal. going to go through it and replace the bearings atleast. if the syncros look bad i'll throw a set of those in. he has had this trans for around 25 to 30 years. i sure love it when you meet an old hot rodder right across the street from your house.
nice yeah i have been looking for a toploader but if i can find one out here they always want way more then it's worth and i have yet to find one of those "imposter toploaders" from granadas in the junk yard.
yea i picked mine up for 425 and its been rebuilt with a bellhousing and flywheel. and all i was looking for was a 4 speed and ive heard good things about the t10 as a daily driver
the guy i got i from said it came out of a 65 or 66 mustang. but i will make sure it's for a small block if it's not it was only 40 bucks so i'm not too worried.
there is a couple id guides out there or just google the id numbers on the side of the case. here is one that i used so i could try to find a shifter and linkage havent bought any yet cus im waiting for a guy to get back on me so i can buy a complete set of clutch pedals and linkage. but this will help http://www.teufert.net/trans/trannyid.pdf from what little that ive read the t-10 was used in 65-66 mustangs and 60s fairlane's and galaxies that were 390s i think mine is from a fairlane with a 390 and i have a 351 bellhousing that will work with my 302 from what ive found out
Back in my younger years I had a 63 Mercury Monterey convertible with a factory 390 4 speed. It was a T10 in a 4400 lb car. As much as I tried, I never hurt it.
well i just decoded the date code and my t-10 was manufactured may 24th 1965 durring the third shift. so thats right where he was saying the trans came out of. i'm excited to have a 4 speed in the comet when i get it back on the road. from what else i can find on the internet it came out of a 65 mustang with a 289 non hi-po motor. so it should work great for my aplication.
yeah the only problem is that it has two of the tabs where you mount the bell housing are broken off but i have the tabs and am going to see if the guy at my work who is a profesional welder can help me reatatch them. if not i'll track down a new case.
