I'm mounting new seats in my mav and I noticed that my steering column actually slants off to the right. The scary thing is that it's really noticeable, it's not even close to straight. Have any of you guys ever noticed this on your cars, or did someone mess with the mounting on mine? I even tried to loosen the mounts and move it over to the left a little, but it was already as far left as it would go.

The holes in the bottom floor board mount are oversized and the top mounts have slots so in thoery you could move it around to make it straighter if you want.

I put a dashboard from a 1980 Thunderbird in my Maverick an I noticed the same thing...the steering column slants a bit off to the right. I thought that maybe I measured something wrong when I installed the dash, but maybe it is a Mav thing after all?

I noticed that on some GM cars, it slants to the left (seriously)...Guess Ford's are right-wing and GMs are to the left...

I'm going to have to tear the whole dash apart anyways, so I'll probably try and do some big adjustments on it while I'm in there. I dunno if it's the best idea in the world though because the dash has a little recessed portion in it right where the steering column goes, so if I moved the whole column to the left it wouldn't look centered compared to the dash. Hmm.

Maybe the dash aint centered in the car. I believe there is some adjustment. Look at the gaps on the end.

I want to do something about the instrument panel in my 73. Maybe dash exchange is the way to go. Sure would like to see a picture of the mod you made on yours Mark.

It may be slanted in case you get into a front end crash. That way the steering wheel won't come straight into your chest, it will go off to the side. Although I don't know this for sure, but it makes sense. After all, I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last nite.

Every Mav/Com steering column I've ever seen has been crooked.

MavMark How hard was the dash to put in? Do you have a write up on how to put it in? What is the center console(sp) out of?

    Thanks
