I just recently bought a '73 Comet and found that the electric choke is stuck closed (too much gas!) all the time. I've purchased one of those universal kits from NAPA and had no issues mounting it and running it into the cab through an existing hole to the right of the steering column... My issue is alignment of the choke cable, can anyone show me some pictures of how they mounted the "L" bracket to align the choke cable with the choke? I would post some pictures but I don't think I have enough posts yet... and I have a 302 engine btw...
I'm near Woodstock... took some pictures, mind you she needs lots of tlc right now and I'm slowly learning things... oh and that's not how I'm going to leave that choke cable !
Did you buy that car in Grimsby?? I went and looked at one just like yours last year in Grimsby. Had fiberglass front fenders.
Bought it locally (Brantford) via WTB on Kijiji, was actually looking for a Maverick. There was a Grabber located in Sarina that I drove out to take a look at but it was in not so good shape. Back to my initial post... has anyone installed a manual choke into these cars and how did they mount the choke control cable?
I got a stud and replaced one intake bolt with it. That works well. I think there is also a threaded hole in the vacinity you can use too. I am not on my own puter so I can't come up with a pic
Years ago, I had one mounted to one of the intake bolts. Like Bob said. Wouldn't have been just as easy to fix the electric choke? Nice car, I've wondered about that one in Sarnia, just never bothered to go see it.
I went with a Manual because there was one sitting in a store a short distance away, I would go electric If they are readily available... The car in Sarina had seized brakes, paint was ruined (was all scratched and no shine left) vacuum hoses missing, rough interior, not too much going for it.... Can someone identify my carb number and type (I cannot locate the tag but it looks like it's a Model 2100-D 2-V according to my shop manual), I'll look into an electric choke, it will certainly look nicer.
