Hey all, I've got a 2150 autolite 2bbl carb and I can see it leaking fuel out of the throttle shaft on the pass side of the carb. I suspect it's leaking air too, as I can hear massive internal vacuum leaks in the carb upon accel. Am I screwed? I see repair kits, but they're expensive. Any home fixes?
OK, I went out and looked at it more. The shaft wiggles very little if at all. I'm thinking the throttle shaft bore isn't loose as suspected. Some further research suggests a fuel float setting too high will leak past and onto the shaft. I'm also experience what sounds like a wide open vacuum leak, coming straight from the carb, but it only does it with the foot on the throttle at certain rpms. I'm thinking maybe just a generic good old rebuild on the thing may do it for me...any input from the carb guys?
You can rebuild it but...If you dont figure out whats wrong first, you may still have the same problems. Sounds like too much fuel causing a mid range bog (float setting too high/ power valve leaking etc...) If fuel is leaking past the throttle shafts...They are worn...
I figured out the source of my giant vacuum leak...was my new egr valve leaking as soon as vacuum was applied. I pulled the vacuum line and that was that. Who the F' needs egr anyhow. As for the carb, it's much better again, but I don't like fuel leaking like that....I may pull it apart just for giggles and inspect everything/replace/rebuild. It's cheap enough, I've got nothing to lose.
