Haven't been able to find a thread, so I thought I'd start my own.

I'm installing a basic 8000 rpm autometer tachometer into my 72 maverick, but I am having difficulty determining which wire connect where. My wiring diagram is a little confusing. I'm not sure, but I believe the ignition switch wire (supplied in kit, red color) hooks up to the light green and red dashed stripe on the steering column. Am I mistaken?

the ignition switch wire goes to the negative side of the coil. then the light wire goes to a wire that controls the light so you can dim them and finally a wire for a 12v that must be wire that only gets power when the key is on.

for the light and the 12v wires if you have a radio the two wires that go to that one is for the lights and the other is a 12v key on wire hope this helps

The green wire goes to the coil negative.
Post a picture of your directions and it will be easier to help.

Doesn’t the light green and red wire go to the alternator indicator light? If so then it would not be hot when the engine is running. I ran my power wire to the fuse block that is switched 12v in the run position only

now THAT is a response. I'm not the best at reading wiring diagrams, so clearing up that confusion saved me some trouble. Do you have apicture of your set up, Thomas?

I just need to know which wire specifically would work. According to my wiring diagram, these are the wires attached to the ignition switch:

    yellow
    red w/ light green
    red w/ light blue
    black w/ light green
    light green w/ red
    pink w/ white

Following the other colors on the diagram...

Yellow looks like it's always hot, like memory save.
Red w/ light green runs to the positive side of the coil.
Red w/ light blue goes through the neutral safety switch and connects to the negative side of the starter solenoid.
Black w/ light green attaches the alternator indicator light and then changes to light green w/ red and comes back to the ignition switch.
pink w/ white goes through the "low brake wrng lt" and stops at "printed ckt conn".

My best guess of wiring connections would probably be to splice into the the red w/ light green. It appears to be the only circuit that would only be active while the key is in the on position. any thoughts, suggestions, or solutions?

the red with the light green will accomplish what you want.
