    In searching for more info on door hinge interchangeability, I came across a link to Charlie Ping's interchange list. Not only did I find my hinge question answered there, but I found the following, on the subject of heater box interchange;

    1970-77 Maverick/Comet Heater Tank Assembly (Entire Heater Box)70-77 w/ac = 67-73 Mustang, 71-73 Pinto w/ac70-77 w/o ac = 69-70 Mustang, Cougar w/o

    I understand this to mean that you can use the complete heater box out of a '67-'73 Mustang that has A/C in your '70-'77 Maverick. Am I alone in this interpretation? The reason that it matters is that if you can use the Mustang A/C heater box, shouldn't any of the Classic Auto Air/ Vintage Air / Old Air Products aftermarket "in-dash" systems work in a Maverick too?
    I have contacted the first 2 companies about applications for Mavericks, and have gotten only vague responses, preumably because they haven't found it worth their while to test fit any of their systems in a Maverick. I confess that I don't know a lot about A/C, but wouldn't the heater box fit be the big issue in such an application crossover?
    Any comments would be appreciated. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I'd like to have a contemporary, efficient A/C system in my Mav when the rubber finally hits the road. Thanks for any and all input. John B.

    I'd take it as you did for the interchange by what is written. As to the heater box question, it certainly would matter. My Stallion has an aftermarket ARA system that was commonly dealer installed in new vehicles back in the '70s. They used the stock heater boxes with no real changes to them. Know anyone with a Mustang to take any measurements to be sure?

    Here are a few pics of the air in my Mav. It is a Frigidaire unit and kit, and I can get you the name and phone of the guy who installed it for me. He is in Forest Park, GA, but can give you info on where he ordered the kit, or probably get it for you. It is a killer system, and works extremely well. It is an R134A system. Hope this helps.

    Earl's AC works EXTREMELY well. It looks great, does not interfere with leg room, will freeze you into a saprano.:bananaman

    I'm very much interested in the AC thread myself. My 73 originally had a factory system. But when I got it somebody had just replaced the heater core....they butchered the heatbox...left out heat control and removed every part of the ac except the control panel and a wad of vacuum hoses inside...and the compressor mount on the engine. Even with an addon system I'd have to rebuild the heat. Hate to spend more on ac than the engine but it might happen.

    This was already in the car when I bought it a year ago. i don't know if it was the first or second owner who got it installed but judging from the manual it's pretty old. its a jetstar something-or-other. doesnt really work all that well but one of these days I might get around to fixing it! Kinda cool to have though.
