Since it's 2 years old it's probably been raised before but like lots of you I'm seeing our car prices inching up. I stumbled on this citation by Collectible Car Magazine in 2008. They cite an excellent condition Mav might be had for $5-$7K. Based on some excellent condition cars I've kind of followed for this year that's probably still about right. Depends on tons of stuff of course. It'd be cool if a copy of the article they did that year was around here somewhere? http://www.classicaldrives.com/50226711/ford_maverick_your_next_collectible_honest.php
yea i saw that too... ( about the hp of the v8) kind of goes the same for mustangs they always noted from the factory that the hp was way under what it really was for insurance always wondered if that was the same for the maverick cus i have a mustang book that says 1972 302 was stated 210hp so maybe its true for our mavericks?
Wasn't the Maverick based on the Falcon platform and not "completely new"? And the four door wasn't introduced until 1971, as per the wiki.
I was thinking the Maverick was designed so it would be able to use a lot of the Falcon components for cost savings but not on the same basic platform. They of course knew the Falcon was going away. I find it odd the article kept citing to keep up with the Volkswagen.
I thought reading the 2008 article would be kind of fun so I found an old copy for sale on Ebay and ordered it. I'll scan the article and post to the forum for everybody's enjoyment.
In the early 70's car manufactures changed the horsepower ratings from flywheel hp to rear wheel or brake hp. That is one reason for the big drop in hp numbers. There was also the copression ratio drops that effected the hp numbers. In my chiltons repair manual it gives a different hp rating for all of the engines each year as changes were made in regaurd to poluton standards etc. I have also noticed that when the hp numbers dropped, so did the rpm that the readings were taken at. My guess is that a lot of the numbers were to keep the government epa people happy. When ford started using the duraspark ignition system, the readings started to go back up a little because of the hotter spark. It is interesting to see how they manipulate numbers sometimes. When I took my bike in to be dynoed, the teck told me there are 3 types of horsepower. There is flywheel hp, rearwheel hp and brochure hp.
Different pistons for early 70s and mid 70s. DOnt know if it matters or not. early had dish and mid to late had flat top.
